Nondestructive Electrothermal Detection Of Corrosion, Brittany Ambeau, Harris Enniss, Stefan Schnake
Mathematical Sciences Technical Reports (MSTR)
Nondestructive testing and imaging plays an important role in many industries, e.g., the monitoring and maintenance of corrosion in aircraft. The general technique is to input energy in some form into an object, observe the object’s response, and from this input-output information determine the internal structure. New techniques are always being explored, and recently there has been much interest in methods that use multiple forms of energy. In this vein, we examine a new technique for imaging corrosion or material loss in an object by combining electrical and thermal measurements on some accessible portion of the object’s outer boundary. The …

Corrosion Characteristics Of Galvanized Flat Steel For Power Grounding In Nacl Solution Medium, Yong Li, Gao-Lin Wu, Bang-Fei Deng, Ping Yang, Xue-Ming Li, Qing-Bin Zong
Journal of Electrochemistry
The corrosion behavior of power grounding galvanized flat steel was studied by polarization measurement, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and neutral salt spray test in 5% NaCl solutions. The surface morphologies of galvanized coating and structural properties of corrosion products were observed with scanning electron microscope and X-ray diffraction spectrometer, respectively. Results showed that under the temperatures of 20~60℃, the corrosion currents of galvanized flat steel increased with the temperature rising. The corrosion rate at 60℃ was 0.8408 mA?cm-2, which is 2.9 times larger than that at 20℃. The corrosion rate dropped after reaching the maximal value of 1.95 mg?cm-2?d-1 when the …
The Effects Of Heat Treatment On Area Percent Porosity And Corrosion Behavior Of High-Nickel Thermal Spray Coatings, Travis Crowe, Alec Guraydin
The Effects Of Heat Treatment On Area Percent Porosity And Corrosion Behavior Of High-Nickel Thermal Spray Coatings, Travis Crowe, Alec Guraydin
Materials Engineering
Samples of two Thermal Spray Coating (TSC) alloys on a low carbon steel substrate were obtained: alloy C276 and Nicko-Shield 200. Specimens of each alloy were subjected to heat treatments at temperatures at 1100° for 60 minutes and 1200° for 10 minutes, with some specimens left in the as-sprayed condition. Three replicates were prepared for each condition. Thin 1” strips were cut using a diamond wafering blade for porosity measurements and 2” x 1” specimens were cut for corrosion testing using a SiC abrasive saw. The porosity specimens were mounted in acrylic resin, polished, and examined using SEM. From these …

Thin(16matrix of key deposition parameters was constructed to develop the optimum spray parameters. The effects of parameter variations on the porosity levels of these coatings were assessed. Key parameter interactions were reported. Quantifiable interactions between the selected parameters were noted for the LM24 substrate. However, on the LM25 substrate these interactions were much less defined. Corrosion performance of the optimised coatings, based on electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, was reported. The presence of through-pores in the coatings were shown to reduce the corrosion resistance of the coated systems by a factor of 10, in dilute NaCl solutions, compared to bulk 316L stainless …

This study investigated the electrochemical behavior of chromium nano-carbide cermet coating applied on Ti–6Al–4V and Co–Cr–Mo alloys for potential application as wear and corrosion resistant bearing surfaces. The cermet coating consisted of a highly heterogeneous combination of carbides embedded in a metal matrix. The main factors studied were the effect of substrate (Ti–6Al–4V vs. Co–Cr–Mo), solution conditions (physiological vs. 1 M H2O2 of pH 2), time of immersion (1 vs. 24 h) and post coating treatments (passivation and gamma sterilization). The coatings were produced with high velocity oxygen fuel (HVOF) thermal spray technique at atmospheric conditions to …
Oxygen Diffusion Characterization Of Frp Composites Used In Concrete Repair And Rehabilitation, Chandra K. Khoe
Oxygen Diffusion Characterization Of Frp Composites Used In Concrete Repair And Rehabilitation, Chandra K. Khoe
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Many independent studies have conclusively demonstrated that fiber reinforced polymers (FRP) slow down chloride-induced corrosion of steel in concrete. The mechanism for this slow down is not well understood but it has been hypothesized that FRP serves as a barrier to the ingress of chloride, moisture, and oxygen that sustain electrochemical corrosion of steel.
This dissertation presents results from an experimental study that determined the oxygen permeation rates of materials used in infrastructure repair. In the study, the oxygen permeation constants for epoxy, carbon and glass fiber laminates, concrete, epoxy-concrete and FRP-concrete systems were determined and a method developed to …
