Ca1−xSrxCu3Ti4O12 (x=0, 0.1, and 0.2) ceramics were fabricated and their dielectric properties were investigated. It was found that the dielectric constant significantly decreased with the increase of Sr content at low temperature region (<250 K) and remained almost unchanged at high temperature region (>250 K). Three sets of relaxation peaks were observed in electric modulus plots, which were considered to be associated with grains, domain boundaries, and grain boundaries, respectively. Through the analysis of the heights and calculated activation energies of the relaxation peaks, it is strongly believed that the suppressed dielectric constant is related to the change of domain boundaries with Sr doping. ©2007 American Institute of Physics

La0.5Sr0.5Co1-xNixO3-delta (0<= x<= 0.6) ceramics were prepared using a conventional solid-state ceramic route. The thermal properties—thermal conductivity and heat capacity—of these ceramics were measured by the photopyroelectric technique. The thermal conductivity was found to increase with increasing Ni content. These materials were also found to exhibit a metallic-type variation of thermal conductivity with temperature, and no metal-insulator (M-I) transition was found to occur in any of the samples prepared by this route. However, a M-I transition was found to occur in La0.5Sr0.5CoO3-delta samples prepared by hot pressing. The difference is attributed to variations in oxygen content in the samples.

High quality SrBi2Nb2O9 ferroelectric thin films were fabricated on platinized silicon using pulsed laser deposition assisted with dc glow discharge plasma. Microstructure and ferroelectric properties of the films were characterized. Optical properties of the thin films were studied by spectroscopic ellipsometry and photoluminescence from the ultraviolet to the infrared region. Optical constants, n~0.56 in the infrared region and n~2.24 in the visible spectral region, were determined through multilayer analyses on their respective pseudodielectric functions. The band-gap energy is estimated to be 3.60 eV. A photoluminescence peak at 0.78 µm, whose intensity decreases with decreasing temperature, was observed when excited with …

The temperature dependence of electrical properties for SrBi2Ta2O9 thin film capacitors with platinum electrodes (Pt/SBT/Pt) on silicon wafers was studied from 10 to 300 K. with a decrease in temperature from 300 to 200 K, the remanent polarization of the thin films shows about an 11% reduction from its 300 K value; however, it is reduced by about 87% reduction from its 200 K value when the temperature drops from 200 to 100 K. with a decrease to 200 K, the polarization fatigue was significant, and the capacitor shows an approximate 29% reduction in polarization from its initial value following …

Optical limiting effects in SrBi2Ta2O9 (SBT) and PbZrxTi1-xO3 (PZT) ferroelectric thin films have been observed with nanosecond laser pulses at 1.064 µm. Limiting thresholds were found to be 5.84 J/cm2 for SBT and between 4.53 and 5.93 J/cm2 for PZT, depending on composition, whereas saturation thresholds for the films were about 2.92 J/cm2 and between 2.27 J/cm2 to 2.97 J/cm2, respectively. Damage thresholds around 10.0 J/cm2 and between 10.37 J/cm2 to 10.54 J/cm2, respectively for SBT and PZT, were also determined. A possible mechanism for the observed limiting, nonlinear optical scattering from the ferroelectric domains, is discussed. These results elucidate …

Grain Oriented Crystallization, Piezoelectric, And Pyroelectric Properties Of (Baxsr₂ - X)Tisi₂O₈ Glass Ceramics, Jianping Zhang, Burtrand I. Lee, Robert W. Schwartz, Zhenya Ding

Polar, nonferroelectric (BaxSr2 - x)TiSi2O8 glass ceramics with highly oriented crystallites were prepared by a gradient temperature heat treatment technique. The crystallization mechanism and microstructures of (BaxSr2 - x)TiSi2O8 glass ceramics were investigated by means of differential thermal analysis, x-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy, and the dielectric, piezoelectric and pyroelectric properties were investigated for various compositions. The results show that polar (BaxSr2 - x)TiSi2O8 glass ceramics have a low dielectric constant and a high hydrostatic figure of merit dh × gh = ~ 2500. This high hydrostatic figure of merit, along with other unique characteristics, such as no aging …
