Fly Ash Based Geopolymer For High Temperature And High Compressive Strength Applications In Aggressive Environment, Aaryan Manoj Nair, Akm S. Rahman May 2020

Fly Ash Based Geopolymer For High Temperature And High Compressive Strength Applications In Aggressive Environment, Aaryan Manoj Nair, Akm S. Rahman

Publications and Research

Geopolymers are the results of geosynthetic reactions between aluminosilicates and strong bases. This results in chemical bonds between aluminum (Al), Silicon (Si)and oxygen (O) composing polymer rings in tetrahedral coordination. These bonds give them widespread useful applications such as high heat bearing ceramics, and base construction material whilst being far more environmentally conscious. The purpose of the experiment is to examine the effect of Silicon Carbide whisker and inorganic glass particles on thermal and mechanical properties of Geopolymers. This study will help understand the effect of various compositions and concentrations of SiO2 in mechanical strength. In this experiment, the …

Feasibility Of Hybrid Thermoplastic Composite-Concrete Load Bearing System, Camerin M. Seigars Aug 2018

Feasibility Of Hybrid Thermoplastic Composite-Concrete Load Bearing System, Camerin M. Seigars

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Thermoplastic composites have many advantages over thermoset composites such as being recyclable, rapidly manufacturable, and more impact resistant. The goal of this thesis is to assess the feasibility of using thermoplastic composites in structural applications through literature review, mechanical testing, design of a load-bearing hybrid composite-concrete structures, and the implementation of thermoplastic composites for tensile reinforcement of concrete. The study had four objectives covering the stated goal.

  1. Conduct a literature review to direct thermoplastic material selection
  2. Characterize thermoplastic material mechanical properties using standardized mechanical testing
  3. Design a hybrid composite-reinforced concrete beam, and
  4. Develop thermoplastic shear connectors to develop composite action …

Introducing Fly Ash Into Lsi's Recipe, Andrew Mathias Beckrich Jan 2012

Introducing Fly Ash Into Lsi's Recipe, Andrew Mathias Beckrich

All Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Other Capstone Projects

There has been published data that states that concrete producers can use Fly Ash as an alternative to Portland cement and still generate similar or better strength properties. By applying these principles to our industry and products, what new processes will need to be put in place and followed? What is the correct combination/portion of Fly Ash that will produce similar and better results as well as the adjusted new recipes? What type of cost is associated with the introduction of this new ingredient? Lastly, how does this affect the quality and reputation of the product?
