Application Of Machine Learning Models In The Capacity Prediction Of Ccfst Columns, Khaled Megahed, Nabil Said Mahmoud, Saad Elden Mostafa Abd-Rabou

Mansoura Engineering Journal

Circular concrete-filled steel tubular (CCFST) columns are widely utilized in structural engineering due to their impressive load-bearing capabilities and ductility. Existing design standards often yield disparate outcomes when applied to structural columns with identical properties, introducing uncertainty for engineering designers. This study introduces an innovative technique to address these challenges using two machine learning (ML) models: Gaussian process regression (GPR) and extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost). These models consider various input variables, including the geometric and material properties of CCFST columns, to estimate the compressive strength. The models undergo training and evaluation using two datasets comprising 1004 axially loaded CCFST columns …

Machine Learning-Based Prediction Of International Roughness Index For Continuous Reinforced Concrete Pavements, Ragaa T. Abd El-Hakim, Ahmed N. Awaad, Sherif M. El-Badawy Jan 2024

Machine Learning-Based Prediction Of International Roughness Index For Continuous Reinforced Concrete Pavements, Ragaa T. Abd El-Hakim, Ahmed N. Awaad, Sherif M. El-Badawy

Mansoura Engineering Journal

The International Roughness Index (IRI) serves as a crucial indicator for ride quality and user comfort. As road roughness escalates, road serviceability diminishes, resulting in reduced vehicle speed and increased travel time, and consequently higher carbon dioxide emissions. Predicting the IRI is of utmost importance for Pavement Management Systems and sustainable development overall. While numerous studies have forecasted the IRI of flexible pavements, there is a notable scarcity of research focusing on rigid pavement performance prediction. This study addresses the gap in predicting IRI for Continuous Reinforced Concrete Pavements (CRCP), an understudied aspect of pavement engineering. Leveraging the Long-Term Pavement …

Production Of Hydrogen From Sodium Borohydride Using Bimetal Catalyst, Haitham I. Attia, Hani Mahanna, M.M. El-Halwany, Mahmoud H Mahmoud Jan 2024

Production Of Hydrogen From Sodium Borohydride Using Bimetal Catalyst, Haitham I. Attia, Hani Mahanna, M.M. El-Halwany, Mahmoud H Mahmoud

Mansoura Engineering Journal

Here, in this paper we try to focus on the bi-metal non-semiconductor photo catalyst for the Production of hydrogen from sodium borohydride instead of semi conductor photo catalyst which have an excellent performance in photo-catalysis. In this paper , we studied the combination of CuNi bi-metal(developed and reinforced on MWCNTs) as a non-semiconductor photo-catalyst that generates electrons for the Production of hydrogen from sodium borohydride with led light as source of light , We also added CuNi on multi wall carbon nano tubes (MWCNTs) for increasing the surface area of the reaction. We studied the effect of different quantity of …

The Mechanical Performance Of Sustainable High Performance Concrete Containing Hybrid Polypropylene Fibers And Exposed To Elevated Temperatures, Ahmed M. Tahwia, Marwa M. Ouda, Mohamed Abdellatief, Walid E. Elemam Jan 2024

The Mechanical Performance Of Sustainable High Performance Concrete Containing Hybrid Polypropylene Fibers And Exposed To Elevated Temperatures, Ahmed M. Tahwia, Marwa M. Ouda, Mohamed Abdellatief, Walid E. Elemam

Mansoura Engineering Journal

The purpose of this research is to investigate the impact of hybrid micro and macro polypropylene fibers (PPFs) on the mechanical characteristics and microstructure of high performance concrete (HPC). Seven concrete mixes with different contents of hybrid polypropylene fibers were tested. The tests included the slump test, compressive and flexural strength, resistance to elevated temperatures, and concrete microstructure. Compared to the control mixture, introducing macro and micro polypropylene hybrid fibers to HPC mixes dramatically enhanced the flexural and compressive strength of concrete while lowering workability. HPC compressive and flexural strengths decrease as temperature rises, nevertheless, the strength loss rate was …

Laboratory Characteristics, Performance Evaluation, And Agency Cost Analysis Of Cold-Recycled Asphalt Mixtures, Marwa B. Elaskary, Ahmed M. Awed, Alaa R. Gabr, Sherif M. El-Badawy

Mansoura Engineering Journal

This technical study offers a comprehensive investigation into the utilization of Cold Recycled Asphalt Mixtures (CRAMs) with varying proportions of Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP) in the context of pavement maintenance applications. The study encompasses a multi-faceted analysis, encompassing laboratory mix design requirements, mix performance evaluations, and a thorough assessment of economic benefits, with the overarching goal of promoting the sustainable adoption of CRAMs in pavement maintenance. To achieve the objectives of the research, five ratios of RAP to virgin aggregates (VA) of (0%:100%), (25%:75%), (50%:50%), (75%:25%), and (100%: 0%). The research encompasses a wide array of laboratory tests and investigations …

Impact Of Traffic Congestion On Transportation System: Challenges And Remediations - A Review, Hamdy B. Faheem, Amira M. El Shorbagy, Mohamed Elsayed Gabr

Mansoura Engineering Journal

Traffic congestion is a growing problem in urban transportation networks around the world, having major consequences for the economy and the environment. As metropolitan populations rise and more people rely on autos for mobility, traffic congestion is becoming more common and severe. This review paper presents an overview of the economic and environmental issues caused by traffic congestion in urban areas, as well as proposed ways to reduce its negative effects. It discusses potential traditional transportation solutions such as traffic management infrastructure development, improving public transportation, and intelligent transportation solutions to address traffic congestion problems such as smart parking systems, …

Influence Of Macro-Synthetic Fibers On The Flexural Behavior Of High Strength Concrete Beams Reinforced With Gfrp Bars, Maryam M. Koura, Ahmed M. Tahwia, Mohamed H. Matthana Jan 2024

Influence Of Macro-Synthetic Fibers On The Flexural Behavior Of High Strength Concrete Beams Reinforced With Gfrp Bars, Maryam M. Koura, Ahmed M. Tahwia, Mohamed H. Matthana

Mansoura Engineering Journal

Rusting of steel reinforcement in marine environments causes the overall destruction of reinforced concrete constructions; steel rebars in concrete members have been replaced with fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) bars in recent years. To enhance the shear behavior of glass (GFRP) bars reinforced concrete (RC), macro-synthetic polyolefin (PO) fiber was added. These materials have a low modulus of elasticity, a high tensile strength, and a linear stress-strain response to full failure. This study investigates the effect of macro synthetic structural fibers on the post-cracking and deformability properties of high strength concrete reinforced with FRP bars without transverse reinforcement. Eight full-scale RC beams …
