Ai-Driven Security Constrained Unit Commitment Using Predictive Modeling And Eigen Decomposition, Talha Iqbal Jan 2023

Ai-Driven Security Constrained Unit Commitment Using Predictive Modeling And Eigen Decomposition, Talha Iqbal

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports

Security Constrained Unit Commitment (SC-UC) is a complex large scale mix integer constrained optimization problem solved by Independent System Operators (ISOs) in the daily planning of the electricity markets. After receiving offers and bids, ISOs have only few hours to clear the day-ahead electricity market. It requires a lot of computational effort and a reasonable time to solve a large-scale SC-UC problem. However, exploiting the fact that a UC problem is solved several times a day with only minor changes in the system data, the computational effort can be reduced by learning from the historical data and identifying the patterns …

Route Planning For Long-Term Robotics Missions, Christopher Alexander Arend Tatsch Jan 2020

Route Planning For Long-Term Robotics Missions, Christopher Alexander Arend Tatsch

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports

Many future robotic applications such as the operation in large uncertain environment depend on a more autonomous robot. The robotics long term autonomy presents challenges on how to plan and schedule goal locations across multiple days of mission duration. This is an NP-hard problem that is infeasible to solve for an optimal solution due to the large number of vertices to visit. In some cases the robot hardware constraints also adds the requirement to return to a charging station multiple times in a long term mission. The uncertainties in the robot model and environment require the robot planner to account …

Design, Modeling And Optimization Of Reciprocating Tubular Permanent Magnet Linear Generators For Free Piston Engine Applications, Jayaram Subramanian Jan 2020

Design, Modeling And Optimization Of Reciprocating Tubular Permanent Magnet Linear Generators For Free Piston Engine Applications, Jayaram Subramanian

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports

Permanent Magnet Linear Generators (PMLG) are electric generators which convert the linear motion into electricity. One of the applications of the PMLG system is with free piston engines. Here, the piston is moved by the expander using an internal combustion engine or a Stirling engine. Other applications of the PMLG are wave energy conversion, micro energy harvesters, and supercritical CO2 expander systems. The most common technology of the electric generators is a rotary electric generator. The current technology of the engine-generators (GENSET) is of a rotary type which uses a crankshaft to convert the linear motion to rotary motion …

Parametric Optimization Of Visible Wavelength Gold Lattice Geometries For Improved Plasmon-Enhanced Fluorescence Spectroscopy, Casey A. Norville Jan 2020

Parametric Optimization Of Visible Wavelength Gold Lattice Geometries For Improved Plasmon-Enhanced Fluorescence Spectroscopy, Casey A. Norville

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports

The exploitation of spectro-plasmonics will allow for innovations in optical instrumentation development and the realization of more efficient optical biodetection components. Biosensors have been shown to improve the overall quality of life through real-time detection of various antibody-antigen reactions, biomarkers, infectious diseases, pathogens, toxins, viruses, etc. has led to increased interest in the research and development of these devices. Further advancements in modern biosensor development will be realized through novel electrochemical, electromechanical, bioelectrical, and/or optical transduction methods aimed at reducing the size, cost, and limit of detection (LOD) of these sensor systems. One such method of optical transduction involves the …
