Cybersecurity Strategy Against Cyber Attacks Towards Smart Grids With Pvs, Fangyu Li, Maria Valero, Liang Zhao, Yousef Mahmoud

KSU Proceedings on Cybersecurity Education, Research and Practice

Cyber attacks threaten the security of distribution power grids, such as smart grids. The emerging renewable energy sources such as photovoltaics (PVs) with power electronics controllers introduce new potential vulnerabilities. Based on the electric waveform data measured by waveform sensors in the smart grids, we propose a novel cyber attack detection and identification approach. Firstly, we analyze the cyber attack impacts (including cyber attacks on the solar inverter causing unusual harmonics) on electric waveforms in distribution power grids. Then, we propose a novel deep learning based mechanism including attack detection and attack diagnosis. By leveraging the electric waveform sensor data …

African Conference on Information Systems and Technology

Failing to balance standardization and evolveability in IS design and implementation process results sustainability failure which is common in developing country. IS research provides various IS design solution including layered modular architecture to address both evolveability and standardization simultaneously. However, this design solution requires appropriate IT governance mechanisms which lacks both theoretical and empirical explanation in IS research. The core of this research is understanding IT governance mechanism design that can balance standardization and evolveability in the course of IS design and implementation. The research uses the case of District Health Information System-2 (DHIS-2), layered modular architecture, design and implementation …

Three-Dimensional Hydrodynamic Focusing For Integrated Optofluidic Detection Enhancement, Eric Scott Hamilton May 2020

Three-Dimensional Hydrodynamic Focusing For Integrated Optofluidic Detection Enhancement, Eric Scott Hamilton

Utah Space Grant Consortium

Integrated optofluidics are ideal for high sensitivity detection due to the size of device features being near the small scale of sample particles (10 microns). Novel integrated optofluidic designs enable single molecule detection through hydrodynamic focusing, making the approach ideal for low concentration biosensing. Detection was enhanced and device operation characterized. Further enhancement is promised with optimization of existing designs.

Masking And Detecting Radiation-Induced Errors In Sram-Based Fpgas Through Partial Circuit Replication, Andrew M. Keller May 2020

Masking And Detecting Radiation-Induced Errors In Sram-Based Fpgas Through Partial Circuit Replication, Andrew M. Keller

Utah Space Grant Consortium

Radiation found in terrestrial and space environments can induce errors into SRAM-based FPGAs. Replication of circuitry can be used mask and detect these errors to improve reliability or availability. This work advances the understanding and implementation of partial circuit replication in SRAM-based FPGAs. Partial circuit replication is the replication of a subset of the components in a circuit. A reliability model is presented that evaluates the reliability benefit of partial circuit replication. The model suggests that the reliability benefit is inversely related to the portion of the circuit replicated. A partial triple module redundancy case study is also presented that …

Our project entails the use of vibration analysis to come up with a solution to the vibrational issues the ONU Telescope on top of Reed Hall of Science is currently experiencing. In its current state, the telescope produces images that are shaky and unclear; thus, rendering it useless for its intended research purposes. This shaky image is a result of excessive vibrations on and around the telescope. Within this project we diagnosed the source of the vibrations, brainstormed different design possibilities, chose the best one that is most feasible and meets the client’s needs, and proposed a detailed final design …

Energy Harvesting From Airports, Deepon Roy Mar 2020

Energy Harvesting From Airports, Deepon Roy

National Training Aircraft Symposium (NTAS)

Airports around the world are primarily powered using the country’s electricity grids, which comes from a large number of powerplants (coal, natural gas, etc.). Due to a high power supply demand by the airports, the sources from which they get their electricity has become non-economical and non-environment friendly.

As a result, many airports around the world have opted for using solar energy grids for their energy generation, in a bid to reduce the airport’s electricity consumption costs. But it has been a slow progress as only a few airports have been able to implement this feature, as their initial setup …
