A Solar-Powered And Multi-Tiered Mesh Node For A Portable In Situ Emergency Response System, Adam Matthews Dec 2013

A Solar-Powered And Multi-Tiered Mesh Node For A Portable In Situ Emergency Response System, Adam Matthews

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

The aftermath of a natural disaster is typically characterized by lack of a reliable medium for dissemination of information to survivors. Current state-of-the-art emergency response systems rely on satellite radio-enabled devices, but survivors, unlike first responders, do not have access to such devices. To mitigate this problem, we present PERPETUU a solar-powered portable GIS microserver. The microserver node can be deployed in a disaster scene, and can serve maps to survivors viewable on browsers of off-the-shelf mobile systems. A key innovation in the design of the PERPETUU node is a multi-tiered hardware architecture-the system combines a low-power micro-controller, a medium-power …

Design Of A Microstrip Bandpass Filter For 3.1-10.6 Ghz Uwb Systems, Cem Cansever May 2013

Design Of A Microstrip Bandpass Filter For 3.1-10.6 Ghz Uwb Systems, Cem Cansever

Electrical Engineering and Computer Science – Theses

In this thesis, ultra-wideband (UWB) microwave filters and design challenges are studied and, a microstrip UWB filter prototype design is presented. The UWB bandpass filter operating in the 3.6 GHz to 10.6 GHz frequency band is targeted to comply with the FCC spectral mask for UWB systems. The prototype filter is composed of quarter-wavelength spaced shunt stub transmission lines. The circuit is first simulated and optimized by using AWR DE simulation software tool. Then Sonnet EM Simulation and CST EM Simulation Tools are further utilized to obtain more accurate simulated results. The fabricated microstrip UWB bandpass filter is then measured …

Synthesis Of Rhenium And Manganese Pyridazoal Complexes, Jesse Evans May 2013

Synthesis Of Rhenium And Manganese Pyridazoal Complexes, Jesse Evans

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

Pyridazines are a heterocyclic aromatic compound containing a characteristic N-N bond that are utilized in many fields, including medicine and electronics. It is this latter field that Dr. Snyder's research group is focused upon. Organometallic compounds are a better conducting material than the current inorganic compounds used in electronics due to better conductance of electricity, lower production cost, and the ability to be formed into thin films. With this in mind, Dr. Snyder's research group has set out to synthesize organometallic compounds for this purpose. Following procedures set forth by Snyder etc, and altered to form an off-metal route, we …

Determining Planck's Constant Using Leds, Zechariah Thurman Jan 2013

Determining Planck's Constant Using Leds, Zechariah Thurman

Zechariah Thurman

In this paper a value for Planck's constant is measured. The value found with this experiment is within two sigma of the accepted value, this constitutes reasonable agreement with theory for the purposes of this experiment.

Analysis Of Modulation And Voltage Balancing Strategies For Modular Multilevel Converters, Ryan Blackmon Jan 2013

Analysis Of Modulation And Voltage Balancing Strategies For Modular Multilevel Converters, Ryan Blackmon

Theses and Dissertations

Modular multilevel converters are an emerging voltage source converter topology suitable for many applications. The increased utilization of HVDC power transmission solutions has resulted in modular multilevel converters becoming a more common converter type. Other applications include interfacing renewable energy power sources to the grid and motor drives. Modular multilevel converters are beneficial for medium voltage motor drives because the properties of this converter topology, such as low distortion, allow for an efficient motor drive design.

Modular multilevel converters are designed where instead of using 6 IGBTs as in a conventional voltage source converter, numerous low-rated IGBTs are used to …
