Model Predictive Control For Grid Scale Pv And Battery, Sahithi Chatradi May 2022

Model Predictive Control For Grid Scale Pv And Battery, Sahithi Chatradi

Theses and Dissertations

Model Predictive Control (MPC) is a control technique that uses prediction data to optimize costs over a given predictive horizon. There are many papers that use this technique to optimize cost in a substantially loaded microgrid, but these techniques are not feasible for utility-scale PV+Storage facility. In this study, MPC is used to optimize the cost for a utility-scale PV+Storage facility, by adding a factor of a possible curtailment. The thesis also presents the various factors that the MPC has in that utility size grid. These factors include line losses, net yield, and curtailment.

The Hybridization Of A Graphene And Silicon Carbide Schottky Optoelectronic Device By The Incorporation Of A Lead Sulfide Quantum Dot Film, Joshua Letton Jul 2020

The Hybridization Of A Graphene And Silicon Carbide Schottky Optoelectronic Device By The Incorporation Of A Lead Sulfide Quantum Dot Film, Joshua Letton

Theses and Dissertations

The work that follows examines the impact of lead sulfide quantum dots on a native epitaxial graphene (EG) SiC Schottky device, resulting in a hybrid optoelectronic device which presents a possible avenue towards a novel hybrid carbide-based Schottky solar cell. The active (n-type SiC) and contact (graphene) layers for the Schottky junction of the device were grown epitaxially using a novel technique incorporating tetrafluorosilane (TFS) as a precursor gas. The bare EG/SiC device was characterized based on its I-V behavior in dark and under illumination for both forward and reverse bias conditions. The initial characterization demonstrated the expected Schottky diode …

Design And Optimization Of Hybrid Energy Storage For Photovoltaicpower Fluctuation Smoothing Based On Frequency Analysis, Yanting Zeng Mar 2018

Design And Optimization Of Hybrid Energy Storage For Photovoltaicpower Fluctuation Smoothing Based On Frequency Analysis, Yanting Zeng

Theses and Dissertations

As the output power of photovoltaic generation system is affected by factors such as light intensity and temperature, it creates greater randomness and volatility. When the power changes quickly and fluctuates, the traditional energy storage devices often can’t balance the power effectively. In this research Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) method is used to transform the photovoltaic stabilization power in the original time domain to the frequency domain for analysis. And percentage method was used to select the most typical PV data in the frequency domain. Then, the selected power was converted back to the time domain using Inverse Fast Fourier …

Photovoltaic Inverter Control To Sustain High Quality Of Service, Yan Chen Jan 2018

Photovoltaic Inverter Control To Sustain High Quality Of Service, Yan Chen

Theses and Dissertations

The increasing penetration of distributed solar photovoltaic (PV) generation presents both challenges and opportunities for distribution systems. The intermittent nature of solar irradiance may lead to power quality degradation. At the same time, PV inverters –if properly designed and operated– can be used to improve power quality. The goal of this dissertation is to develop power flow optimization methods for power distribution networks with high penetration of PV generation. The approaches proposed in this dissertation have been tested using the modified version of the IEEE 34-node distribution system and the IEEE 123-node distribution system, as well as the validated model …

Effective Pv Output Fluctuation Smoothing Based On Frequency Analysis And Different Weather Patterns, Kuei Hsu Kuo May 2017

Effective Pv Output Fluctuation Smoothing Based On Frequency Analysis And Different Weather Patterns, Kuei Hsu Kuo

Theses and Dissertations

As the Hybrid Energy Storage System (HESS) has the advantages of both power-based and energy-based energy storage devices. It is suitable for a microgrid to smooth the power fluctuation. Analyze the power data of a grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) power station. This research considers grid-connected PV requirements to join the HESS and take advantage of the HESS charge and discharge characteristics to reduce the problems caused by light intensity and temperature change of grid-connected PV power output fluctuations. Using battery optimization control strategies to reduce power and capacity of the HESS configuration. This paper Analyze the effect evaluation when HESS rated …

Green Organic Solar Cells From A Water Soluble Polymer And Nancrystalline Tio2, Qiquan Qiao Jan 2006

Green Organic Solar Cells From A Water Soluble Polymer And Nancrystalline Tio2, Qiquan Qiao

Theses and Dissertations

The cost of the present generation of inorganic silicon solar cells is very high and further breakthroughs in cost and efficiency using traditional materials are becoming less and less likely after over 50 years of development. Next generation organic solar cells offer a solution to the limitations of silicon through the vision of low-cost, liquid-based, large area fabrication technology based on polymer and nanomaterials at room temperature. However, most polymers used in solar cells are dissolved in organic solvents such as xylene, toluene, chloroform, and chlorobenzene. Such solvents are harmful to people and environments, leading to higher costs due to …
