Novel Passive Rfid Temperature Sensors Using Liquid Crystal Elastomers, Yousuf Shafiq
Novel Passive Rfid Temperature Sensors Using Liquid Crystal Elastomers, Yousuf Shafiq
FIU Electronic Theses and Dissertations
When transporting perishable foods in the Cold Supply Chain (CSC), it is essential that they are maintained in a controlled temperature environment (typically from -1° to 10°C) to minimize spoilage. Fresh-food products, such as, meats, fruits, and vegetables, experience discoloration and loss of nutrients when exposed to high-temperatures. Also, medicines, such as, insulin and vaccines, can lose potency if they are not maintained at the appropriate temperatures. Consequently, the CSC is critical to the growth of global trade and to the worldwide availability of food and health supplies; especially, when considering that the retail food market consists mostly (approximately 65%) …
Wireless Positioning And Tracking For Internet Of Things In Gps-Denied Environments, Bekir Sait Ciftler
Wireless Positioning And Tracking For Internet Of Things In Gps-Denied Environments, Bekir Sait Ciftler
FIU Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Wireless positioning and tracking have long been a critical technology for various applications such as indoor/outdoor navigation, surveillance, tracking of assets and employees, and guided tours, among others. Proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT) devices, the evolution of smart cities, and vulnerabilities of traditional localization technologies to cyber-attacks such as jamming and spoofing of GPS necessitate development of novel radio frequency (RF) localization and tracking technologies that are accurate, energy-efficient, robust, scalable, non-invasive and secure. The main challenges that are considered in this research work are obtaining fundamental limits of localization accuracy using received signal strength (RSS) information with directional …
Design And Development Of Smart Brain-Machine-Brain Interface (Sbmibi) For Deep Brain Stimulation And Other Biomedical Applications, Muhammad S. Khan
Design And Development Of Smart Brain-Machine-Brain Interface (Sbmibi) For Deep Brain Stimulation And Other Biomedical Applications, Muhammad S. Khan
FIU Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Machine collaboration with the biological body/brain by sending electrical information back and forth is one of the leading research areas in neuro-engineering during the twenty-first century. Hence, Brain-Machine-Brain Interface (BMBI) is a powerful tool for achieving such machine-brain/body collaboration. BMBI generally is a smart device (usually invasive) that can record, store, and analyze neural activities, and generate corresponding responses in the form of electrical pulses to stimulate specific brain regions. The Smart Brain-Machine-Brain-Interface (SBMBI) is a step forward with compared to the traditional BMBI by including smart functions, such as in-electrode local computing capabilities, and availability of cloud connectivity in …
Structural Health Monitoring Inside Concrete And Grout Using The Wireless Identification And Sensing Platform (Wisp), Elicek Delgado Cepero
Structural Health Monitoring Inside Concrete And Grout Using The Wireless Identification And Sensing Platform (Wisp), Elicek Delgado Cepero
FIU Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This research investigates the implementation of battery-less RFID sensing platforms inside lossy media, such as, concrete and grout. Both concrete and novel grouts can be used for nuclear plant decommissioning as part of the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) cleanup projects. Our research examines the following: (1) material characterization, (2) analytical modeling of transmission and propagation losses inside lossy media, (3) maximum operational range of RFID wireless sensors embedded inside concrete and grout, and (4) best positioning of antennas for achieving longer communication range between RFID antennas and wireless sensors. Our research uses the battery-less Wireless Identification and Sensing Platform …
