Spectral, Energy And Computation Efficiency In Future 5g Wireless Networks, Haijian Sun Aug 2019

Spectral, Energy And Computation Efficiency In Future 5g Wireless Networks, Haijian Sun

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Wireless technology has revolutionized the way people communicate. From first generation, or 1G, in the 1980s to current, largely deployed 4G in the 2010s, we have witnessed not only a technological leap, but also the reformation of associated applications. It is expected that 5G will become commercially available in 2020. 5G is driven by ever-increasing demands for high mobile traffic, low transmission delay, and massive numbers of connected devices. Today, with the popularity of smart phones, intelligent appliances, autonomous cars, and tablets, communication demands are higher than ever, especially when it comes to low-cost and easy-access solutions.

Existing communication architecture …

An Energy-Efficient Semi-Partitioned Approach For Hard Real-Time Systems With Voltage And Frequency Islands, Jesse W. Patterson May 2016

An Energy-Efficient Semi-Partitioned Approach For Hard Real-Time Systems With Voltage And Frequency Islands, Jesse W. Patterson

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Embedded devices are computer systems with a dedicated function, such as kitchen appliances, electronic toys, phones, et cetera. Embedded devices are commonplace, and many are expected to respond to users in real-time. Such devices are often categorized as real-time embedded systems as they differ from other embedded systems in that work performed by a real-time embedded system must be scheduled such that timeliness can be provided to the user (e.g. when someone is talking on a phone, the phone needs to be able to schedule the sending and receiving of data in a timely manner such that the conversation is …

Ssaga: Streaming Multiprocessors (Sms) Sculpted For Asymmetric General Purpose Graphics Processing Unit (Gpgpu) Applications, Shamik Saha May 2016

Ssaga: Streaming Multiprocessors (Sms) Sculpted For Asymmetric General Purpose Graphics Processing Unit (Gpgpu) Applications, Shamik Saha

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

The evolution of the Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) over the last decade, has reinforced general purpose computing while sustaining a steady performance growth in graphics intensive applications. However, the immense performance improvement GPUs are already close to the abominable power wall. With a massive popularity of the mobile devices running general-purpose GPU (GPGPU) applications, it is of utmost importance to ensure a high energy efficiency, while meeting the strict performance requirements. Hence, a flexible GPU design paradigm is the need of the hour.

In this work, using a system level Computer Aided Design (CAD) technique, we propose SSAGA - …

Quality Of Experience Aware Spectrum Efficiency And Energy Efficiency Over Wireless Heterogeneous Networks, Yiran Xu May 2016

Quality Of Experience Aware Spectrum Efficiency And Energy Efficiency Over Wireless Heterogeneous Networks, Yiran Xu

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Propelled by the explosive increases in mobile data traffic volume, existing wireless technologies are stretched to their capacity limits. There is a tremendous need for an expansion in system capacity and an improvement on energy efficiency. In addition, wireless network will support more and more multimedia services and applications, in which user experience has been always an important factor in evaluating the overall network performance. In order to keep pace with this explosion of data traffic and to meet the emerging quality of experience needs, wireless heterogeneous networks have been introduced as a promising network architecture evolution of the traditional …
