Electrochemical Performance Of Screen-Printed Composite Coatings Of Conducting Polymers And Carbon Nanotubes On Titanium Bipolar Plates In Aqueous Asymmetrical Supercapacitors, Xiaohang Zhou, George Z. Chen

Journal of Electrochemistry

Composites of conducting polymers (polypyrrole and polyaniline) with acid treated multi-walled carbon nanotubes were formulated into printable aqueous inks, with the aid of functional additives (benzethonium chloride as a surfactant with or without polyvinyl alcohol as a binder). The inks were screen-printed as fairly uniform coatings of various mass loading densities and areas (up to 75 mg cm-2 and 100 cm2) on thin titanium plates (0.1 mm in thickness). These screen-printed plates were used to fabricate both unit cell and multi-cell stack of asymmetrical supercapacitors with screen-printed negative electrodes of activated carbon (pigment black) in aqueous electrolytes …

Carbon Nanotubes With Ni2P Nanoparticles As A Counter Electrode In Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells, Yan-Ye Dou, Nan-Fu Yan, Guo-Ran Li, Xue-Ping Gao

Journal of Electrochemistry

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) supported by Ni2P nanoparticles are prepared and used as a counter electrode in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) for the first time. The CNTs-Ni2P composite was prepared by the heat treatment of a mixed precursor including nickel chloride, sodium hypophosphite and CNTs in argon atmosphere. The X-Ray diffraction (XRD) results indicate that the as-prepared sample consists of hexagonal Ni2P and carbon nanotubes. No peaks of other nickel phosphides are observed in the XRD pattern. Microstructure of the Ni2P-CNTs composite was investigated using transmission electron microscopy (TEM). It is shown that the Ni …

Delay Insensitive Ternary Logic Utilizing Cmos And Cntfet, Ravi Sankar Parameswaran Nair

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

As digital circuit design continues to evolve due to progress of semiconductor processes well into the sub 100nm range, clocked architectures face limitations in a number of cases where clockless asynchronous architectures require substantially less power, generate less noise, and produce less electromagnetic interference (EMI). This dissertation develops the Delay Insensitive Ternary Logic (DITL) asynchronous design paradigm that combines the designs aspects of similar Dual-Rail asynchronous paradigms and Boolean logic to create a single wire per bit, three voltage signaling and logic scheme.

DITL is designed at the transistor level using multi-threshold CMOS and carbon nanotube (CNT) FETs to develop …

High Frequency Characterization Of Carbon Nanotube Networks For Device Applications, Emmanuel Decrossas May 2012

High Frequency Characterization Of Carbon Nanotube Networks For Device Applications, Emmanuel Decrossas

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

This work includes the microwave characterization of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) to design new CNTs-based high frequency components. A novel developed method to extract the electrical properties over a broad microwave frequency band from 10 MHz to 50 GHz of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) in a powder form is performed. The measured scattering parameters (S-parameters) with a performance network analyzer are compared to the simulated one obtained from an in-house computed mode matching technique (MMT). An optimized first order gradient method iteratively changes the unknown complex permittivity parameters to map the simulated S-parameters with the measured one until convergence criteria are satisfied. …

The authors demonstrate precise alignment and controlled assembly of single wall nanotube (SWNT) bundles at a fast rate over large areas by combining electrophoresis and dip coating processes. SWNTs in solution are assembled on prepatterned features that are 80 nm wide and separated by 200 nm. The results show that the direction of substrate withdrawal significantly affects the orientation and alignment of the assembled SWNT bundles. I-V characterization is carried out to demonstrate electrical continuity of these assembled SWNT bundles.

Fabrication And Characterization Of Hybrid Energy Harvesting Microdevices, Zhongcheng Gong Apr 2012

Fabrication And Characterization Of Hybrid Energy Harvesting Microdevices, Zhongcheng Gong

Doctoral Dissertations

In this dissertation, a hybrid energy harvesting system based on a lead zirconate titanate (PZT) and carbon nanotube film (CNF) cantilever structure has been designed, fabricated and studied. It has the ability to harvest light and thermal radiation energy from ambient energy and convert them to electricity.

The proposed micro-scale energy harvesting device consists of a composite cantilever beam (SU-8/CNF/Pt/PZT/Pt) which is fixed on a silicon based anchor and two electrode pads for wire bonding. The CNF acts as an antenna to receive radiation energy and convert it to heat energy and then transfer to the whole cantilever structure. The …

Electrical Engineering and Computer Science - All Scholarship

Electrical properties of nano-composite materials are extracted to investigate the possibility to engineer novel material for microwave applications. A measurement setup is developed to characterize material in a powder form. The developed measurement technique is applied on nano-particles of alumina, carbon nanotubes (CNTs), and composite mixture of carbon nanotubes and alumina. The effect of packing density on dielectric constant and loss tangent is thoroughly characterized experimentally. The obtained results show that the real part of effective permittivity may be considerably enhanced by increasing the percentage of conducting nano-particles. In addition, it is possible to decrease the loss in a material …

Rigorous Characterization Of Carbon Nanotube Complex Permittivity Over A Broadband Of Rf Frequencies, Emmanuel Decrossas, Mahmoud El Sabbagh, Victor Fouad Hanna, Samir M. El-Ghazaly

Electrical Engineering and Computer Science - All Scholarship

This work presents a comprehensive characterization of the frequency dependence of the effective complex permittivity of bundled carbon nanotubes considering different densities over a broadband of frequencies from 10 MHz to 50 GHz using only one measurement setup. The extraction technique is based on rigorous modeling of coaxial and circular discontinuities using mode matching technique in conjunction with inverse optimization method to map the simulated scattering parameters to those measured by vector network analyzer. The dramatic values of complex permittivity obtained at low frequencies are physically explained by the percolation theory. The effective permittivity of a mixture of nano-particles of …
