The amount of greenhouse gasses in the earth’s atmosphere has led to rapid climate change. In order to remedy this, the amount of annual greenhouse gas emissions needs to be decreased. As of 2019, transportation accounted for 29 percent of the Nation’s total greenhouse gas emissions. Therefore, one important way to decrease greenhouse gas emissions in the U.S will be a switch from traditional vehicles powered by gasoline and diesel, to electric vehicles. Despite challenges of infrastructure, resources, and consumer access, a national switch to electric vehicles is possible and necessary.

A Novel Composite Hybrid Energy Storage System For Hybrid And Electric Vehicles, Marium Rasheed

This work introduces a composite hybrid energy storage system (CHESS) architecture that combines energy-dense and capacitively-coupled power-dense battery packs in a unique configuration that requires minimal energy balancing using low-power DC-DC converters. A power-dense battery is coupled to an energy-dense battery using a relatively small supercapacitor module that naturally distributes the system current between the two packs, requiring no additional contactors or full-power processing DC-DC converters. A design procedure is developed to size the system for plug-in hybrid and battery electric vehicles (PHEVs and BEVs). After graduation most people do not have enough financial knowledge to be successful. This research project looks at how financial literacy courses impact students of different backgrounds. Research was conducted using online databases to evaluate primary and secondary sources including surveys and Add something specific about the sources you used. From this research I found that US high school graduates are lacking in financial education. In conclusion I think that all US highschools need to include mandatory financial education courses in order to ensure students have at least a basic understanding before having to make major decisions.

No NFL team has ever won the Super Bowl while simultaneously paying their starting quarterback more than 13% of the maximum budget allowed for player salaries. This paper explores the effects of quarterbacks on an NFL roster and the consequences of the size of their contracts have on the performance of the team as a whole entity. This research was derived from databases of NFL statics and expert opinions on the matter of player contracts. Sparse Monocular Scene Reconstruction Using Rolling Voxel Maps, Jacob Johnson

We present a method for creating 3D obstacle maps in real-time using only a monocular camera and an inertial measurement unit (IMU). We track a large amount of sparse features in the image frame. Then, given scale-accurate pose estimates from a front-end visual-inertial odometry (VIO) algorithm, we estimate the inverse depth to each of the tracked features using a keyframe-based feature-only bundle adjustment. These features are then accumulated within a probabilistic robocentric 3D voxel map that rolls as the camera moves. This local rolling voxel map provides a simple scene representation within which obstacle avoidance planning can easily be done. …

A 28nm 0.1V 10-bit 2kS/s time domain ADC design is proposed. This design opens the doors to both low supply and low power space sensors and instruments. Due to the stringent voltage supply, unique challenges arise that are met with innovation in the sample switch and the quantizer design. These components of the ADC architecture are optimized to perform successfully at a 0.1V supply with a sample rate suitable for most sensor applications.

A Process To Produce Battery Grade Silicon From Natural Halloysite Clay, Nathan Clarke

We demonstrate the production of silicon from a clay mineral, halloysite, as a low-cost silicon source for high-energy anodes in aviation batteries. The halloysite-derived silicon demonstrated 1800 mAh/g capacity after formation cycles, comparable to other developing silicon materials.

Integrated optofluidics are ideal for high sensitivity detection due to the size of device features being near the small scale of sample particles (10 microns). Novel integrated optofluidic designs enable single molecule detection through hydrodynamic focusing, making the approach ideal for low concentration biosensing. Detection was enhanced and device operation characterized. Further enhancement is promised with optimization of existing designs.

Radiation found in terrestrial and space environments can induce errors into SRAM-based FPGAs. Replication of circuitry can be used mask and detect these errors to improve reliability or availability. This work advances the understanding and implementation of partial circuit replication in SRAM-based FPGAs. Partial circuit replication is the replication of a subset of the components in a circuit. A reliability model is presented that evaluates the reliability benefit of partial circuit replication. The model suggests that the reliability benefit is inversely related to the portion of the circuit replicated. A partial triple module redundancy case study is also presented that …

Recovering clustered sparse signals with an unknown sparsity pattern for the single measurement vector (SMV) problems is considered. The notion of sparsity in this context is referred to the signals having very few non-zero elements in some known basis. In the SMV, the objective is to recover a sparse or compressible signal from a small set of linear non-adaptive measurements. In this work, we investigate finding the supports of sparse signals via multiple measurement vectors (MMVs). MMV can be thought as a collection of single measurement vectors (SMVs), in which all the SMVs share the same sparsity pattern, referred to as joint sparsity in the literature. The term sparse is referred to the signals that have very few non-zero (active) elements.
