Magneto-Optical Visualisation For High-Resolution Forensic Data Recovery Using Advanced Thin Film Nano-Materials, M Nur-E-Alam, Mikhail Vasiliev, Kamal Alameh, Craig Valli

International Cyber Resilience conference

We develop and characterise new high-performance nano-engineered magneto-optic materials for use in laser-microscopy- based magnetic field visualisers featuring high sensitivity and resolution, low cost and small size. This type of visualisers will make it possible for forensic experts to recover erased data previously stored in high- and ultrahigh-density magnetic disks and hard disk drives.

Technological Challenges Of 1-Dimensional Magnetic Photonic Crystals, Mikhail Vasiliev, Kamal Alameh, Dmitry E. Balabanov, Vladimir I. Burkov, V. V. Koledov, Viacheslav A. Kotov, V. G. Shavrov, Anotoly K. Zvezdin

Research outputs pre 2011

Visible-region magnetic photonic crystals (MPC) designed for higher-order bandgap operation have been proposed to overcome the technological restrictions originating from the strong thickness dependency of the individual magnetic layer properties observed in MPC structures.

Research outputs pre 2011

Experimental investigation results for the magnetic circular dichroism spectrum (MCD) of a photonic crystal (PC) are presented. We found that in the vicinity of the transmission peak within the photonic bandgap and also near the bandgap edges, the circular dichroism is measurable even in the absence of any applied magnetic field. The application of magnetic field leads to generating an additional MCD signal measurable at the wavelengths near the “defect mode” transmittance line.

Near Infrared Photovoltaic Micro-Cell For Optical Fibre Based Power Harvesting, Gary Allwood

Theses : Honours

A photonic power system using a silicon or germanium based device as a photonic power converter was proposed. The properties of each device were investigated to determine the optimum structure, design, configuration and efficiency for power conversion. These included, but were not limited to, device geometry, doping concentration and the wavelength of the incident beam. Relevant inferences were made from the results obtained and compared to previous work. Currently, research into photovoltaic power converters is focused on the efficiencies of complex heterostuctures made from gallium-arsenide compounds. Here, the properties of a silicon device were investigated in detail as the predicted …
