Agricultural Rental Hall Wedding And Event Venues Party Barns, Sallie D. Fahey, Mike Wolf, Pat Grimes

Building Academy Conference

Rural event and wedding venues are all the rage, but many simply begin operation without proper code and zoning compliance. Rural property owners seldom understand that their old barn or new pole building was not built to Class 1 structure standards to allow public access, but when enforcement is initiated tearful brides and angry event planners blame local government. Other non-approved event venue owners are knowingly exceeding the limits and pushing enforcement of codes and public nuisance laws.

Residual Service Life Estimation And Its Importance For Pretensioned Concrete (Ptc) Bridges In Coastal Cities, Dyana Joseline, Deepak K. Kamde, Sripriya Rengaraju, Radhakrishna G. Pillai Nov 2019

Residual Service Life Estimation And Its Importance For Pretensioned Concrete (Ptc) Bridges In Coastal Cities, Dyana Joseline, Deepak K. Kamde, Sripriya Rengaraju, Radhakrishna G. Pillai

International Conference on Durability of Concrete Structures

Many pre-tensioned concrete (PTC) bridges are experiencing premature chloride-induced corrosion. Hence, it is crucial to estimate their residual service life and update it with newer data on a periodic basis - to plan for corrosionpreventionorcontrolmeasuresandensuresafetyofexistingbridges.Criticalchloridethreshold(Cl th) is one of the parameters necessary to estimate the corrosion initiation period. However, quantitative estimates on Clth for prestressing (PS) steel are not well-reported in literature. This paper presents experimental data on the Clth of PS steel, the chloride diffusion coefficient (Dcl), and surface chloride concentration (Cs) of concrete samples obtained from a PTC bridge girder in a coastal city in India. For estimation …

Service Life And Life-Cycle Assessment Of Reinforced Concrete With Fly Ash And Limestone Calcined Clay Cement, Ravindra Gettu, Radhakrishna G. Pillai, Manu Santhanam, Sundar Rathnarajan, Anusha Basavaraj, Sripriya Raju, Yuvaraj Dhandapani Nov 2019

Service Life And Life-Cycle Assessment Of Reinforced Concrete With Fly Ash And Limestone Calcined Clay Cement, Ravindra Gettu, Radhakrishna G. Pillai, Manu Santhanam, Sundar Rathnarajan, Anusha Basavaraj, Sripriya Raju, Yuvaraj Dhandapani

International Conference on Durability of Concrete Structures

Environmental impact due to the emission of carbon dioxide during concrete production can be taken care by reducing the clinker content in the cement. The clinker content can be reduced by replacing it with fly ash and limestone calcined clay. Such systems can have a potential to exhibit enhanced durability/service life when exposed to chloride and carbon dioxide. However, estimating probabilistic service life of concretes with such alternative binder systems is difficult due to the lack of quantitative estimates of the input parameters such as chloride diffusion coefficient (DCl), ageing coefficient (m), carbonation coefficient (KCO2), and …

Transport Properties And Strength Development Of Blended Cement Mortars Containing Nano-Silica, Ali Akbar Ramezanianpour, Sajjad Mirvalad, Mehrdad Mortezaei Nov 2019

Transport Properties And Strength Development Of Blended Cement Mortars Containing Nano-Silica, Ali Akbar Ramezanianpour, Sajjad Mirvalad, Mehrdad Mortezaei

International Conference on Durability of Concrete Structures

In the present study, the mechanical properties and durability of blended cement mortars containing nanosilica and natural pozzolans is investigated. Trass and pumice, two different Iranian natural pozzolan, are used in the experiments. For cement blends preparation, nano-silica replacement levels of 2, 3 and 4% by mass of cement was considered; each mixture contained one of the natural pozzolans with a fixed replacement percentage of 15. The Standard mortar samples were made with w/cm ratio of 0.485; the flow of all mortars ranged from 14 to 16 cm. All prepared mortars’ samples were cured in saturated limewater until the test …

Improving The Shortage Of Skilled Workers In The Construction Industry, Brett Moon Apr 2019

Improving The Shortage Of Skilled Workers In The Construction Industry, Brett Moon

Kansas State University Undergraduate Research Conference

The goal of this project was to research ways the construction industry is improving the shortage of skilled workers. The research objective is to identify through literature search ways by which the construction industry enhances skilled laborers. Skilled construction workers are declining, making it a competition among construction companies to find these workers. The recession, immigration challenges, and the lack of training programs are the main causes for the decline in skilled workers. The research was gathered from literature reviews of the shortage of skilled workers in the construction industry. The literature reviews show the need for skilled workers has …

Application Of Computational Tools To Spaghetti-Based Truss Bridge Design, Jin Xu, Jiliang Li, Nuri Zeytinoglu, Jinyuan Zhai Mar 2019

Application Of Computational Tools To Spaghetti-Based Truss Bridge Design, Jin Xu, Jiliang Li, Nuri Zeytinoglu, Jinyuan Zhai

ASEE IL-IN Section Conference

Application of Computational Tools to Spaghetti-Based Truss Design

Statics and Strength of Materials are two foundational courses for Mechanical/Civil Engineering. In order to assist students in better understanding and applying concepts to a meaningful design task, SolidWorks and theoretical calculation were used for a spaghetti-bridge design contest with the constraints of given maximum weight and allowable support-material weight. As the first step of this iterative designing process, both extrude feature and structural member were introduced to model planar bridge trusses. Then SolidWorks’ Statics module was used to run FEA analysis of the structural performance in efforts to optimize the …

Latex Modified Concrete - Very Early Strength, Bobby Steele Mar 2019

Latex Modified Concrete - Very Early Strength, Bobby Steele

Purdue Road School

INDOT came out with specifications for a very early strength concrete to use on bridge deck overlays. This concrete is fast setting, which allows overlays to be performed over a weekend and benefits the traveling public with a short duration of traffic interference. Cure time to reach the strength requirement is 3 hours. E&B Paving performed the first application with the new spec on August 26, 2018. Many changes were also made to the INDOT Specification Section 722.

Rough Roads Ahead!?, Sarah Reed, Brooke Thomas, Jim Hellmann

Purdue Road School

Have you ever found yourself in the public's cross-hairs when it is time to implement a few roadway improvements? Are you handicapped in your ability to describe the true value of community planning and economic development planning? Come hear from one dynamic trio with the ability to identify issues and opportunities that others might not see and work to uncover even more ways tin which we are better together.
