Using Virtual Reality And Construction Software To Transform Construction Facilities, Jacqueline Ana Badal Jun 2023

Using Virtual Reality And Construction Software To Transform Construction Facilities, Jacqueline Ana Badal

Construction Management

The objective of this project is to analyze construction jobsite facilities, specifically portable restroom facilities, and brainstorm how they can be redesigned to better suit the needs of women and individuals working on site. Portable toilets endure a great amount of weathering throughout the duration of the project and can become extremely unsanitary and often riddled with profanity. This can create an unclean and unwelcoming environment, especially for women working on the jobsite. The purpose of this project is to create a discussion around jobsite safety, starting with portable toilets. This is done using construction technology. Virtual reality was used …

Determining Student Interest For A Virtual Reality Safety Training Course, Courtney Martin Jun 2022

Determining Student Interest For A Virtual Reality Safety Training Course, Courtney Martin

Construction Management

The purpose of Cal Poly’s Construction Management Department is to provide students with the best education they can get so they can be prepared for the challenges they may encounter in their professional careers. This research paper analyzes students' prior knowledge of virtual reality (VR) and determines the interest in creating a Construction Management (CM) technical elective covering VR and safety training which can help educate and train students about safety, hazardous jobsite situations, and accident prevention measures. This paper also examines the advantages of a VR construction training course taught on campus compared to online training without VR. VR …

3d Virtual Learning Spaces, Carter Melick Jun 2022

3d Virtual Learning Spaces, Carter Melick

Construction Management

Learning within the construction industry is challenging due to the complexity, size and variety of construction projects. This project aims to tackle these challenges through the use of 3D modeling and VR technologies. The project focuses on the teaching of structural steel framing with an emphasis on the stages/phases of construction. The first steps involved taking structural steel plans and using them to create a 3D model in Revit. The model is broken up into stages from foundation to roof framing to highlight the stages of construction. Once each model stage was finalized, it was imported into a 3D program …

The Integration Of Virtual Reality In The Commercial Construction Industry, Justin T. Gin Mar 2022

The Integration Of Virtual Reality In The Commercial Construction Industry, Justin T. Gin

Construction Management

Virtual reality has recently been spreading throughout the commercial construction industry rapidly. Some of its capabilities are safety training, helping spot Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) issues, logistics planning, and virtual walkthroughs. Many construction companies were starting to utilize virtual reality's advantages until COVID-19 hit. The initial wave of COVID slowed down construction in general as well as the need or use of virtual reality. Now, some companies are worried about the health risks and implementation issues that virtual reality headsets might bring while other companies are optimistic about the future of virtual reality. This report will explore the different …

The Use Of Virtual Reality In Construction Safety Training, Matthias S. Guegler Mar 2021

The Use Of Virtual Reality In Construction Safety Training, Matthias S. Guegler

Construction Management

The emergence of virtual reality has seemingly limitless possibilities in the construction industry. One of the most significant applications of this technology in construction, is its use in virtual reality safety training, as it allows for more immersive and retainable training programs. Construction VR training programs have been developed to allow workers to train in a safe working environment and develop the necessary skills in recognizing hazardous jobsite situations. The purpose of this study is to measure the effectiveness and potential of virtual reality construction training as it compares to traditional industry training through attitudinal research. To this end, a …

Virtual Reality And Its Applications In The Mockup Process: A Case Study, David B. Friend Dec 2018

Virtual Reality And Its Applications In The Mockup Process: A Case Study, David B. Friend

Construction Management

Mockups are an important part of the construction process as they provide numerous benefits in both constructability review and aesthetic approval. Virtual Reality is an emerging technology that could prove to be a valuable addition to the mockup process. Many construction firms are attempting to incorporate virtual reality into any process they can --ranging from impressing owners in order to procure jobs to training employees so they can more adeptly adjust to field conditions. This paper will introduce virtual reality and some of its applications in the construction industry, specifically analyzing virtual reality and its applications in the mockup process …

Applications Of Virtual Reality In Construction, Erick Baeza

Construction Management

Virtual reality, a technology that has just been recently introduced to the construction industry, has gained popularity for its many practicalities which include but not limited to; cost savings, time savings and detections of design errors. This case study summarizes the applications and benefits that virtual reality brings to the industry, in particular to Lendlease’s Oceanwide Plaza project located in Downtown Los Angeles alongside drywall subcontractor, Martin Bros. The information for this case study was gathered through means of a phone call interview with Martin Bros’ foreman, Gilbert Benavidez and face-to-face interviews with Lendlease’s field superintendent Wade Nevitt and assistant …

Case Study On Virtual Reality In Construction, Kyle Eugene Haggard Jun 2017

Case Study On Virtual Reality In Construction, Kyle Eugene Haggard

Construction Management

Virtual reality has evolved into a practical technology that has recently been introduced across many different industries. In the construction industry alone, the innovative tool has started to show its worth by limiting rework, time savings, and identifying design flaws. This case study outlines the goals, benefits, and challenges for virtual reality in construction as it relates to BNBuilder’s Spectrum/Vertex project. Due to the infancy of the technology, suggestions were collected from the interviewees and discussed in the subsequent paragraphs. The information for this case study was collected from: phone call interviews from BNBuilders’ field and office employees, the vice …
