Towards Nlp-Based Conceptual Modeling Frameworks, David Shuttleworth, Jose Padilla Apr 2023

Towards Nlp-Based Conceptual Modeling Frameworks, David Shuttleworth, Jose Padilla

Modeling, Simulation and Visualization Student Capstone Conference

This paper presents preliminary research using Natural Language Processing (NLP) to support the development of conceptual modeling frameworks. NLP-based frameworks are intended to lower the barrier of entry for non-modelers to develop models and to facilitate communication across disciplines considering simulations in research efforts. NLP drives conceptual modeling in two ways. Firstly, it attempts to automate the generation of conceptual models and simulation specifications, derived from non-modelers’ narratives, while standardizing the conceptual modeling process and outcome. Secondly, as the process is automated, it is simpler to replicate and be followed by modelers and non-modelers. This allows for using a common …

Exploring The Components Of Dynamic Modeling Techniques, Charles Daniel Turnitsa Apr 2012

Exploring The Components Of Dynamic Modeling Techniques, Charles Daniel Turnitsa

Computational Modeling & Simulation Engineering Theses & Dissertations

Upon defining the terms modeling and simulation, it becomes apparent that there is a wide variety of different models, using different techniques, appropriate for different levels of representation for any one system to be modeled. Selecting an appropriate conceptual modeling technique from those available is an open question for the practitioner. Existing methods for describing techniques do not capture enough information about the expressive potential of those techniques such that an appropriate selection decision can be made. A formal method to describe conceptual modeling techniques that captures enough about the technique to distinguish it from others is identified as a …

On The Role Of Assertions For Conceptual Modeling As Enablers Of Composable Simulation Solutions, Robert Dennis King Apr 2009

On The Role Of Assertions For Conceptual Modeling As Enablers Of Composable Simulation Solutions, Robert Dennis King

Computational Modeling & Simulation Engineering Theses & Dissertations

This research provides a much needed systematic review of the roles that assertions play in model composability and simulation interoperability. In doing so, this research contributes a partial solution to one of the problems of model composability and simulation interoperability—namely, why do simulation systems fail to achieve the maximum level of interoperability possible? It demonstrates the importance of the assertions that are made during model development and simulation implementation, particularly as they reflect the unique viewpoint of each developer or user. It hypothesizes that it is possible to detect composability conflicts by means of a four-step process developed by the …
