New Magnet Shape For Reducing Torque Ripple In An Outer-Rotor Permanent-Magnet Machine, Yusuf Özoğlu Jan 2017

New Magnet Shape For Reducing Torque Ripple In An Outer-Rotor Permanent-Magnet Machine, Yusuf Özoğlu

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Torque ripple is a major problem for permanent-magnet (PM) machines. It is examined by focusing on the magnetic circuit of the PM machine. Because there is a relationship between the torque ripple and the magnetic energy that is stored in the magnetic field along the air gap of the PM machine, a variation in the magnetic energy was revealed initially. A new magnet geometry is obtained by forming ledges and notches in the permanent magnets to modify the variation of the magnetic energy and the fluctuation in torque. Thus, a new PM design is proposed in this study to minimize …

A Novel Wound Field Flux Switching Machine With Salient Pole Rotor And Nonoverlapping Windings, Faisal Khan, Erwan Sulaiman, Md Zarafi Ahmad Jan 2017

A Novel Wound Field Flux Switching Machine With Salient Pole Rotor And Nonoverlapping Windings, Faisal Khan, Erwan Sulaiman, Md Zarafi Ahmad

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

A flux switching machine (FSM) with a segmented rotor and nonoverlapping windings is an attractive alternative for driving high torque density applications. However, a rotor with segments makes the motor less robust as well as difficult to be assembled, while a FSM with salient rotor and overlapping windings inherits high copper losses and less efficiency due to high coil volume. In this paper, a novel structure of FSM with nonoverlapping windings and salient rotor is proposed, making it different from the 10Slot-8Pole segmental and salient rotor FSM. Several design parameters defined in the rotor, armature coil, and field excitation coil …

A High Performance Hysteresis Current Control Of A Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor Drive, Cosmas Ogbuka, Cajethan Nwosu, Marcel Agu Jan 2017

A High Performance Hysteresis Current Control Of A Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor Drive, Cosmas Ogbuka, Cajethan Nwosu, Marcel Agu

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

A high performance hysteresis current control of a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drive is developed in this paper. The core advantage of field orientation control (FOC) is utilized to separate the flux and torque control components of the stator current of the PMSM. Specifically, the objectives of this work are to develop and utilize the HCC algorithm for FOC of a complete closed-loop speed-controlled PMSM drive system, optimize the control algorithm to obtain fast speed response while maintaining effective current and torque tracking, and examine the hysteresis current control action clearly showing the inverter switching and the effects of …
