A Brief Literature Review For Machine Learning In Autonomous Robotic Navigation, Jake Biddy, Jeremy Evert Apr 2022

A Brief Literature Review For Machine Learning In Autonomous Robotic Navigation, Jake Biddy, Jeremy Evert

Student Research

Machine learning is becoming very popular in many technological aspects worldwide, including robotic applications. One of the unique aspects of using machine learning in robotics is that it no longer requires the user to program every situation. The robotic application will be able to learn and adapt from its mistakes. In most situations, robotics using machine learning is designed to fulfill a task better than a human could, and with the machine learning aspect, it can function at the highest level of efficiency and quality. However, creating a machine learning program requires extensive coding and programming knowledge that can be …

Books Within Books In Fantasy And Science Fiction: “You Are The Dreamer And The Dream”, Phillip Fitzsimmons

Faculty Books & Book Chapters

This chapter discusses books that exist only within works of science fiction and fantasy—what the “List of Fictional Books” on Wikipedia calls a “fictional book” and what Claire Fallon calls “invented books” in her article for the Huffpost website, “Fictional Books Within Books We Wish Were Real.”

Assistive Robotics And Their Uses During The Pandemic, Thomas Klassen, Jeremy Evert Apr 2021

Assistive Robotics And Their Uses During The Pandemic, Thomas Klassen, Jeremy Evert

Student Research

• “Assistive Robotics” defines any device that can sense, process sensory information, and perform actions that benefit people with disabilities.

• This form of technology can be used on a much higher scale with a greater number of uses.

• We have an opportunity to expand the usage of assistive robotics to help combat COVID-19.

Using Supercomputers To Control Multiple Robots, Andrew Roberts, Jeremy Evert Mar 2020

Using Supercomputers To Control Multiple Robots, Andrew Roberts, Jeremy Evert

Student Research

Supercomputers have been a key enabler to many technological advancements. The pipeline to develop capable supercomputer users is years long. Getting started with a supercomputer can be difficult. As a part of the XSEDE EMPOWER Learner program, this research focuses super-computer user development. SWOSU students do not have working code for many of the training modules available for learning supercomputing. This research details the development of these codes based on materials provided by the Nation-al Science Foundation, Shodor Foundation, and National Center for Supercomputing Applications. The result of this research is a better understand-ing of supercomputing training and more tools …

Super Education For Supercomputers, Ezgi Gursel, Jeremy Evert Mar 2020

Super Education For Supercomputers, Ezgi Gursel, Jeremy Evert

Student Research

Supercomputing (1 OOX more powerful than a desktop) allows organizations to solve complex problems that are not easily studied in any other way (ex. Blue Waters to simulate the known universe since the beginning of time for the design of the James Webb telescope). Producing qualified individuals to take advantage of the growing number of supercomputing jobs is a constant struggle. This poster provides an overview of education in supercomputing, explains how training occurs, and describes some of the key players working to educate a taskforce to deal with these highly complex machines.

A Validation Study Of Time Series Data Forecasting Using Neural Networks, Marco Martinez, Jeremy Evert Nov 2018

A Validation Study Of Time Series Data Forecasting Using Neural Networks, Marco Martinez, Jeremy Evert

Student Research

Artificial Intelligence(AI) is a growing topic in Computer Science and has many uses in real world applications. One application is using Al, or more specifically Neural Networks to model data and predict outcomes. Neural Networks have been used in the past to predict weather changes, create facial recognition software , and to create self-driving cars. Our project is a validation study of, “Modeling Time Series Data With Deep Fourier Neural Networks” by Gashler and Ashmore, 2016. Here we show that a neural network can be trained to be an effective predictor of weather patterns in Alaska over several years. Our …

Library Awesome Sauce Undergraduate Research, Jeremy Evert, Phillip Joe Fitzsimmons, Hector Lucas

Faculty Articles & Research

Library Awesome Sauce Undergraduate Research was a presentation at the 2018 CADRE Conference in Stillwater, OK. The presenters discussed their collaboration on a video project to film interviews of students giving progress reports about their software engineering projects. The videos were posted on the institutional repository.

The speakers discussed Student-Led research and the role that academic libraries play in facilitating student and faculty research and publishing for all disciplines on campus.

Representation Of Characters By Gender Across Video Game Covers Of Different Ratings, Alexandra Cassidy, Aaron Cornell, Emily Burgess, Stephen Burgess, Jeremy Evert Apr 2018

Representation Of Characters By Gender Across Video Game Covers Of Different Ratings, Alexandra Cassidy, Aaron Cornell, Emily Burgess, Stephen Burgess, Jeremy Evert

Student Research

This research was in response to the perception that females are under-represented in gaming culture. Pew Research Center (2015) found that both males and females thought more males played video games (60%). However, there is not a statistically significant difference in the percentage of males and females who have ever played video games (50% M 48% F). There is the perception that the advertising and production of video games contribute to the different stereotypes associated with men and women in gaming culture. According to research about gender and video game production, both male and female employees who work in the …
