Rock and Soil Mechanics

In coal mining, the excavation of a coal-rock roadway and a thin coal seam will inevitably cause radial unloading of the coal-rock combination system. The radial unloading phenomenon is often accompanied by the rapid accumulation and release of energy, so it is necessary to investigate the energy evolution law of coal-rock combination specimens under the unloading confining pressure condition. To this end, the unloading confining pressure tests with different unloading rates were carried out for the coal-rock combination specimens. This article provides a synthesis of the interconnected problems of tenuous energy access, wildfires, and exposures to high air pollution in Indigenous communities in rural California through the lens of ongoing collaborative research being carried out by researchers at Cal Poly Humboldt, Schatz Energy Research Center, Karuk Department of Natural Resources, and the Blue Lake Rancheria Tribe. The article provides analytical information on the study of methods of treatment of used engine oils. The issues of ecological safety of storage, processing and use of automobile waste are considered. The problems of ecological safety of application of lubricants are inseparable from utilization of OWS, which are currently one of the most common man-caused waste that negatively affects all objects of environment - atmosphere, soil and water. An RLW-2000 micro-computer servo-control rock triaxial testing machine was used to carry out triaxial cyclic loading and unloading experiments of saturated and natural shales under different confining pressures. The mechanical properties and hysteresis effects of two hydrated shales were analyzed. The evolution law of the damping ratio was discussed based on the energy principle. The experimental results show that as the cycle number increases, the cumulative residual strain increases gradually. The relative residual strain decreases first and then tends to a stable region, and finally increases rapidly prior to the rock damage. The deformation modulus of the saturated shale is …

The ongoing research and prototyping of electric vehicles (EVs) offers numerous opportunities to investigate their performance in various service contexts. As EVs are integrated into society, the reliable prediction of fuel consumption and routing time becomes particularly important in emergency response services. This project develops a preliminary stochastic model that can route and predict the energy consumption and travel time for hypothetical emergency vehicles operating on an electric battery cell. Using a Monte-Carlo framework, we constructed a routing model designed to minimize travel time and resource consumption under various simulated conditions.
