Virtual Reality And Its Applications In The Mockup Process: A Case Study, David B. Friend
Virtual Reality And Its Applications In The Mockup Process: A Case Study, David B. Friend
Construction Management
Mockups are an important part of the construction process as they provide numerous benefits in both constructability review and aesthetic approval. Virtual Reality is an emerging technology that could prove to be a valuable addition to the mockup process. Many construction firms are attempting to incorporate virtual reality into any process they can --ranging from impressing owners in order to procure jobs to training employees so they can more adeptly adjust to field conditions. This paper will introduce virtual reality and some of its applications in the construction industry, specifically analyzing virtual reality and its applications in the mockup process …
Creating A Training Guide For First-Time Bluebeam 2018 Users, Ryan M. Weir
Creating A Training Guide For First-Time Bluebeam 2018 Users, Ryan M. Weir
Construction Management
The use of technology is constantly increasing in the construction industry. Bluebeam is commonly used in both industry and the Cal Poly Construction Management program. The goal of this project based project is to create a training guide for first time Bluebeam users. The guide takes users through the steps of opening the program, becoming accustomed with the user interface, and step by step through a basic takeoff to the submission stage.
Discovering The Benefits Of Integrating Bim Workflows Into Residential Construction Estimating, Trey R. Garcia
Discovering The Benefits Of Integrating Bim Workflows Into Residential Construction Estimating, Trey R. Garcia
Construction Management
As Building Information Modeling tools become increasingly more prevalent within the construction industry, primarily the commercial sector, it is important to recognize how it can impact and/or improve other sectors of the industry. This paper will focus primarily on residential construction and the potential cost benefits that could be achieved with the implementation of model-based estimating. Other benefits that the commercial sector currently thrive on will also be noted and explained for potential implementation for residential construction. The project explained in this paper has a dual purpose; which is to discover if both cost and time benefits can be developed …
Application Of Mechanical, Electrical, And Plumbing Contractor’S Bim Practices To The Cal Poly San Luis Obispo Construction Management Program, Christopher J. Langstaff
Application Of Mechanical, Electrical, And Plumbing Contractor’S Bim Practices To The Cal Poly San Luis Obispo Construction Management Program, Christopher J. Langstaff
Construction Management
Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) contractors play such a crucial role in the construction and design phase of building a project; their success or failure can drastically affect the project's overall success. MEP contractors’ use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) in the construction industry has grown exponentially over the past decade. This paper will expand on the utilization and practices of BIM by MEP contractors. This information functions as a foundation for my research into current professional BIM trends as they relate to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo’s (SLO) Construction Management (CM) curriculum. Cal Poly SLO’s CM department has designed …
Implementing Bim Management And Process Optimization Tools In Construction Management Curriculum, Jake W. Castillo
Implementing Bim Management And Process Optimization Tools In Construction Management Curriculum, Jake W. Castillo
Construction Management
As the construction industry rapidly continues to adopt technology and Building Information Modeling practices, we need to ensure that Construction Management curriculum prepares students for what is expected after graduation. Cal Poly’s Construction Management program currently have two Building Information Modeling courses in the curriculum that focus mainly on learning software and while this will be essential for students graduating the Construction Management program, there remains room to improve the courses as the industry adapts. Adding curriculum geared more toward managing the BIM process and learning process optimization skills will not only benefit a higher percentage of students, but will …
Poly Canyon Observation Deck, Jordan H. Morofsky
Poly Canyon Observation Deck, Jordan H. Morofsky
Construction Management
The Poly Canyon Observation Deck is a project that I have been moving through preconstruction for the past year. It started as a solo project but quickly evolved into an interdisciplinary project involving two architectural engineers and myself. Together we developed a project proposal that we presented to Cal Poly Facilities along with our building permit application. They have approved our proposal and have awarded us a provisional building permit which will be approved after they review the 100% construction documents. We have been working the past two quarters to finalize the design, select materials, and perform a complete structural …
