The Influence Of Bio-Inhibitor On The Corrosion Resistance Of Reinforced Concrete Beams Containing Mswi-Ba As A Partial Sand Replacement, Jamal Khatib, Israa Amer, Ghanem Hassan, Adel Elkordi

BAU Journal - Science and Technology

In this paper, the corrosion behavior of reinforced concrete beams containing municipal solid waste incineration bottom ash (MSWI-BA) as a partial sand replacement and Ceratonia siliqua extract as a green corrosion inhibitor was investigated. Four mixes were prepared: (0 and 20% replacement of sand by MSWI-BA with and without Ceratonia siliqua extract). Tests conducted were UPV, compressive strength, split tensile strength, and elastic modulus. RC beams were prepared for determining the flexural performance. Eight beams were casted. Four beams were exposed to accelerated corrosion test and four beams were kept at room temperature. It was found that the compressive strength, …

Structural Engineering and Mechanics Research Reports

The first prestressed concrete bridge in the United States was built in the early 1950s. Since then, several typical sections have been developed for use in bridge construction including I-beams, deck slabs, box beams, double tees, etc. In bridges under aggressive environments, corrosion deterioration of prestressing strands and stirrups has occurred creating challenges associated with determining the strength of deteriorated existing bridge sections. The MassDOT LRFD Bridge Manual includes provisions to estimate strength of corrosion deteriorated prestressed concrete box beams allowing engineers to calculate the load rating of these types of bridges. The provisions are based on the observed condition …
