Freeway Performance Measurement In A Connected Vehicle Environment Utilizing Traffic Disturbance Metrics, Leila Azizi
Freeway Performance Measurement In A Connected Vehicle Environment Utilizing Traffic Disturbance Metrics, Leila Azizi
FIU Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The introduction of connected vehicles, connected and automated vehicles, and advanced infrastructure sensors will allow the collection of microscopic measures that can be used in combination with macroscopic measures for better estimation of traffic safety and mobility. This dissertation examines the use of microscopic measures in combination with the usually used macroscopic measures for traffic congestion evaluation, traffic state categorization, traffic flow breakdown prediction, and estimation of traffic safety. The considered macroscopic measures are the mean speed, traffic flow rate, and occupancy. The investigated microscopic measures for the stated purpose are: standard deviations of individual vehicle’s speeds, standard deviation of …
Corrosion Durability Of A Nano-Particle Enriched Zinc-Rich Coating System For Highway Steel Bridges, Saiada Fuadi Fancy
Corrosion Durability Of A Nano-Particle Enriched Zinc-Rich Coating System For Highway Steel Bridges, Saiada Fuadi Fancy
FIU Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Corrosion is a major concern for the long-term durability and structural integrity of steel components of highway bridges when unprotected. The application of protective coatings has been widely used for corrosion mitigation of atmospherically exposed structural steel. At present, the zinc-rich primer (ZRP) based three-coat system is widely used in the United States. The metallic zinc pigment ideally would provide corrosion resistance by sacrificial as well as barrier protection. The life of these coating systems is at best only half of the bridge design life. Furthermore, premature degradation may occur if there are flaws in the system due to improper …
Reduction Of Pertechnetate From Off-Gas Condensate Using Aged Zero-Valent Iron As A Reducing Agent, Abraham T. Gebru
Reduction Of Pertechnetate From Off-Gas Condensate Using Aged Zero-Valent Iron As A Reducing Agent, Abraham T. Gebru
FIU Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The Hanford site located in Washington State was one of the major nuclear processing facilities in the U.S. where plutonium was produced between the 1940s and the 1980’s. As a result of this forty yearlong production, approximately 53 million gallons of radioactive waste was generated and currently stored in 177 single and double shelled underground tanks. There were around 60 major and minor leaking incidents in the tanks through the years. These leaking incidents were wakeup calls to a search for an effective long term disposal solution. This paper will concentrate on the low activity waste (LAW), specifically the radioactive …
Retrofitting Of Bridge Elements Subjected To Predominantly Axial Load Using Uhpc Shell, Mahsa Farzad
Retrofitting Of Bridge Elements Subjected To Predominantly Axial Load Using Uhpc Shell, Mahsa Farzad
FIU Electronic Theses and Dissertations
In the United States, ~30% of the ~600,000 highway bridges are categorized as structurally deficient or functionally obsolete. These bridges should be replaced or upgraded to sustain the transportation needs of the growing public and private sectors of the U.S. economy. It is not uncommon for structures to have advanced levels of corrosion-induced damage where major repair and maintenance works are required. However, the transportation infrastructure may undergo disruption during rehabilitation causing interruption to critical economic public, civil and commercial activities. This mandates the development of new techniques and materials for accelerated rehabilitation and resilience. To address this issue, a …
Project Performance Rating Model And Ipd Implementation Guideline Metric For Water And Wastewater Treatment Plant Projects, Elie G. Andary
Project Performance Rating Model And Ipd Implementation Guideline Metric For Water And Wastewater Treatment Plant Projects, Elie G. Andary
FIU Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The public nature of water and wastewater construction capital projects has rendered Design-Bid-Build (DBB) as the delivery method of choice for such projects over the past years. Shortcomings inherent to DBB have had a negative effect on the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) of these projects. Numerous studies have argued that Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) improves the delivery performance of DBB projects. Project delivery performance is, however, a complex concept that is not easily measured. It involves several criteria with many factors that need to be accounted for. Water and wastewater construction projects do not have well-established overall performance rating models, …
