Greenhouse gas emissions are one of the critical factors that affect climate change, increasing flooding risk and threatening human life. The use of traditional construction materials is responsible for a higher percentage of global greenhouse gas emissions when compared to the use of sustainable materials in the construction industry. Wood Plastic Composite (WPC) lumber based on a patent-pending formulation is being explored for use in the manufacture of an aquaculture fish cage structure (Aquapod net pen cage), as an alternative to the current high density polyethylene (HDPE) lumber. Fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) is an advanced composite material that has been employed efficiently to rehabilitate deteriorated concrete structures. Environmental factors, however, affect the durability performance of FRP.
