Mutcd Revisions And Sign Upgrades, Jill Palmer, Karen Stippich

Purdue Road School

Jill Palmer, PE has managed over a dozen sign inventories in response to new MUTCD requirements for retroreflectivity. This presentation shares lessons gleaned from that experience and a practical approach to satisfying the MUTCD criteria.

Consultant Prequalification For Roundabout Design, Craig M. Parks, John Wright Mar 2013

Consultant Prequalification For Roundabout Design, Craig M. Parks, John Wright

Purdue Road School

INDOT plans to implement a prequalification requirement for the design of roundabouts because of the unique characteristics associated with their design. This presentation discusses those characteristics and outline the process being proposed for prequalification of engineers performing design, review, and inspection of roundabout projects.

Probe Vehicle Data To Assess Workzone Safety, Thomas M. Brennan Jr., Jim Poturalski Mar 2013

Probe Vehicle Data To Assess Workzone Safety, Thomas M. Brennan Jr., Jim Poturalski

Purdue Road School

Historically, work zone maintenance of traffic (MOT) plans have been deployed without a scalable and systematic means to assess congestion and make comparisons between modeled and actual queue lengths observed during construction. This session will discuss how commercial probe data can be used to estimate queue lengths and fuse that information with crash data.

Implementation Of Ada Data Collection To An Active Transition Plan, Stephen G. Metzer Aicp, Pws Mar 2013

Implementation Of Ada Data Collection To An Active Transition Plan, Stephen G. Metzer Aicp, Pws

Purdue Road School

Collection of right-of-way (ROW) data for curb ramps and sidewalks to determine compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) can be a time consuming and labor intensive effort. To further complicate this, management and interpretation of the data, once collected, is an effort itself. This presentation will provide an example of how data was collected by DLZ Indiana, LLC for the City of Mishawaka. DLZ surveyed nearly 3,000 curb ramps and 250 miles of sidewalks in 2012 using Apple iPads and various software to manage the data. This presentation will document the parameters measured for curb ramps and sidewalks, …

Concrete Durability And The Value Of Electrical Testing, Robert Spragg, Tommy Nantung, Tony Zander, Jason Weiss

Purdue Road School

The electrical properties of concrete are being used to characterize the durability of concretes. Recently, the development of hand-held testing units has generated interest in taking these tests to the field. The resistivity, or conductivity, testing is rapid and can provide instant information on concrete quality. The concept of the testing will be discussed an d a hand-on demonstration of the equipment will be provided.
