Specifications, including sketches, for the construction of a bridge across Skaggs Creek in Barren County, Kentucky. The detailed specifications as to design, dimensions, materials, and method of construction were prepared by a commission appointed by the Barren County Court. Unable to secure a bid to erect the bridge for the appropriated sum of $1,000, the commission recommended an additional appropriation in order to accept a bid of $1,200.

Bandy, Bowling Green, Kentucky, to Mary Alice Oliver, in response to her article in a local magazine about Massey’s Mill in Warren County, Kentucky. Bandy provides recollections of a water-powered mill located on property owned by his family on Middle Fork Creek at Drake, Kentucky. Includes two photographs of the mill, a map showing its location, and Oliver’s reply to the letter.

Well-to-do merchants and farmers, the Weirs were leading supporters of the Union during the Civil War, providing advocacy, financial support, and military service. Includes full-text scans of a letter from the brother of steamboat pioneer James Rumsey defending his legacy as an innovator; James Weir's journal; James Weir's will; the annotated recollections of Edward Weir, Sr.; and two letters from former Weir slaves recolonized in Liberia (Click on "Additional files" below).
