Although cooperating teachers design and implement model programs of inclusion and special instruction, the supervision of student teachers requires an entirely other "trunk full of unique tools." Successfully facilitating the student teacher's development requires not only good modeling, but also meaningful feedback that is honest and constructive. Such mentoring holds the most promise when the intern receives maximum experience with the tenets of a constructivist teaching philosophy and the implementation of best instructional and management practices. Career academies as a method of school reform were studied. A guide for implementing the foundation teaching academy course Careers in Education was developed and submitted for approval at Auburn High School. The Careers in Education Resource Guide was the accumulation of information to assist Family and Consumer Science teachers with the implementation of the first career academy offered at Auburn High School. Included in the Careers in Education Resource Guide was the alignment of curriculum components with the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction Careers in Education frameworks. An analysis of the Tolt Junior-Senior High School faculty's use of instructional media showed a need for a program designed to increase the effective use of the Learning Resource Center's available media. This project consisted of developing a series of inservice classes designed to train the teachers to better utilize the overhead, opaque, slide, filmstrip, and 16mm projectors, tape recorders, VTR, microfiche reader/printer, and dry mount press. Appropriate examples have been produced in each medium and a tool created for the evaluation of the inservice program.

This study investigated the effect of the Central Washington State College pre-planned quarter on prospective teacher's attitudes toward pupil-teacher relations. For this study, "attitudes toward pupil-teacher relations" was operationally defined as the score gained on the Minnesota Teacher Attitude Inventory. A key concept introduced by the Pre-Professional Preparation Program at Central Washington State College (in addition to the group living concept) was the actual classroom experience afforded the participants. It was the purpose of this study to (1) review the evolution of supervisory attitude toward the observational visit, (2) determine how it may improve instruction, (3) discuss the establishment of rapport between the supervisor and the teacher, (4) present some types of classroom observational visits the principal as a supervisor may use, and (5) present and discuss the value of the post visit conference between teacher and supervisor.

It is not the purpose of this article to present a summary or evaluation of "in-service" work but to indicate how actual procedures reveal the philosophy of a school, its educational thinking and planning. The Central Washington College of Education has had over a year of experience in serving public schools in the Washington state system of in-service training. This system was established by the State Board of Education in cooperation with the public higher institutions of learning in the spring of 1943. The principal function of the program is to provide a service to the schools for the refresher training of teachers returning to the profession during the war period.
