Comparison Of In-Person And Virtual Coaching Of Preservice Special Education Teachers, Sydney Green Jan 2022

Comparison Of In-Person And Virtual Coaching Of Preservice Special Education Teachers, Sydney Green

Theses and Dissertations--Early Childhood, Special Education, and Counselor Education

Traditionally, university supervisors have provided coaching to special education preservice teachers after direct observations of sessions within the classroom. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, many public school districts in the United States enforced visitor restriction policies that made face-to-face observations difficult or impossible. When faced with this challenge, university supervisors were forced to consider alternative ways to provide feedback. Many questioned whether virtual coaching was as effective as in-person coaching in increasing teacher behaviors. Presently, there are limited studies that suggest one delivery method is more effective or efficient than the other. This study used a Repeated Acquisition …

Results indicated that the effect was minimal, with words plus pictures being slightly more effective.

An Evaluation Of Sensory Paths As An Antecedent Intervention For Decreasing Off-Task Behavior In Children With Disabilities During Small Group Instruction, Hannah Keene Jan 2020

An Evaluation Of Sensory Paths As An Antecedent Intervention For Decreasing Off-Task Behavior In Children With Disabilities During Small Group Instruction, Hannah Keene

Theses and Dissertations--Early Childhood, Special Education, and Counselor Education

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the use of sensory paths as an antecedent intervention to decrease off-task behavior and increase on-task behavior in three elementary-aged participants with disabilities. A withdrawal design was used to evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention. The results are corollary due to the unintentional A-B design (schools closed during this time period). There is some evidence that the sensory path intervention was no more effective in decreasing off-task behavior and increasing on-task behavior than baseline conditions. Future research is needed to further investigate the sensory path intervention.

Using Video Modeling Plus A System Of Least Prompts To Teach People With Intellectual Disability To Participate In Faith Communities, Victoria Slocum

Theses and Dissertations--Early Childhood, Special Education, and Counselor Education

An important part of quality of life for people with moderate and severe intellectual disability (MSD) is being involved in community activities, including participation in faith communities. There is a need for meaningful inclusion of people with disabilities in faith communities beyond physical presence. Although it has been recommended that evidence-based strategies, such as video modeling (VM) be used to increase the meaningful inclusion of people with ID in faith communities, there is a lack of empirical studies using evidence-based practices to teach the skills necessary for participation in community activities. The purpose of this dissertation was to examine the …
