This research study identifies the digital technology skills important for entry-level employees in the 21st-century workforce and assesses the digital technology preparation currently provided in Inclusive Postsecondary Education programs for students with intellectual disabilities. Digital technology skills were evaluated using the Digital Competence Conceptual Reference Model (2016). A survey was distributed to 100 U.S. employers to assess the digital technology skills in demand in the workforce. Inclusive Postsecondary Education programs were then evaluated to assess the digital technology skill preparation offered at 83 programs across the U.S. The results were analyzed to determine whether Inclusive Postsecondary Education programs are preparing …

A science achievement gap between students with disabilities (SWD) and students without disabilities continues to persist, impacting academic and occupational outcomes. Traditional science instruction and the abstract nature of science concepts are a barrier to science achievement for students with disabilities. The current research study examined the effect of extended reality (XR; Browser-based 360° virtual reality) on closing the science achievement gap between students with and without disabilities in inclusive biology classrooms using a one group pretest-posttest design. Children with disabilities experience barriers to meaningful engagement in science, technology, mathematics, and engineering (STEM) learning activities and course options. While inclusion is widely professed, general education teachers report being uncomfortable in adapting coursework or including children with disabilities. However, informal professional development opportunities could potentially impact general education teachers' attitudes and dispositions towards including children with disabilities. High School Transition Clubs: Teacher Experiences Leading Clubs, Phillip Sasse

This phenomenological study was conducted to understand high school teachers' use of transition clubs to support student self-determination goals and student participation in community activities. A Qualtrics survey was administered to 51 clubs, with responses from 13 teachers. Survey results indicated club directors were most proud of the career exploration focus and club activities, which gave the students in the clubs new experiences and helped lead the students to positive outcomes. Five teachers agreed to meet for Zoom interviews about their experiences leading their College and Career Transition (CCT) Club. Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) often require additional support, compared to their neurotypical peers. Caregivers of individuals with ASD frequently report mental health impacts including high stress, as well as the need for familial support. While literature exists around grandparents raising children with ASD, the researcher was unable to identify studies regarding the complex care relationship between mothers and maternal grandmothers as co-caregivers for an elementary-aged child with ASD. The researcher investigated 17 participants, ten novices' and seven experts', scores of facial emotion and decision-making while engaged in a special education simulated case conference, SchoolSims. Educational leaders' facial emotions during decision intervals were examined to determine if differences existed between novice and expert computer evidence scores of decision-making and facial emotion. Results indicated no significant differences between groups, but mean evidence scores of joy, surprise, anger, and disgust were expressed at higher levels by novice leaders. The researcher in this study investigated the verbal discourse moves of co-teachers in middle school mathematics classrooms to solicit students' mathematical thinking with a specific focus on students with disabilities. In this examination of two classrooms, students received high-level mathematics instruction from expertly trained co-teachers. A quantitative analysis of the video transcripts using a validated tool for coding teacher behaviors was used to examine the content and context of mathematical discourse in each of the classrooms. All areas of life require time management, but those skills are especially integral and require a different level of accountability for an individual to be successful in academia or when employed (DiPipi-Hoy et al., 2009; Macan et al., 1990). Disciplinary exclusion is disproportionately enforced with Black students with disabilities. Researchers in this area typically examine the overuse of disciplinary exclusion using homogeneous samples narrowed by race, gender, or disability category; however, implications of the overuse and misuse of discipline have rarely been explored at the intersection of race, gender, and disability. Furthermore, Black girls with disabilities and their experiences with discipline are often muted, or overlooked. Due to perceived defiance, which current researchers support, the actions and choices of Black girls are under heightened surveillance. To capture a snapshot of the late-preterm academic phenotype in adolescence, and to address a research gap in empirical investigation, the researcher in the present study compared disability- and mathematics-related eighth-grade age outcomes of those born late-preterm (n = 330), to full-term (n = 5434) peers. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between the introduction of education assistance dogs (EAD) on the attendance, verbal communication utterances, and maladaptive behaviors of students on behavior intervention plans who were enrolled in self-contained, special education classrooms. Teachers in two elementary classrooms and one middle school classroom gathered data on the three areas of focus. The researcher then utilized a single subject design and corresponding line graphs to represent the data. The results indicated a positive trend in the scores for verbal communication utterances and maladaptive behaviors among targeted students after end introduction of the EAD. …
