Advancing Medical Education By Optimizing The Use Of Formal And Informal Curriculum Resources, Ziana Bagot
Advancing Medical Education By Optimizing The Use Of Formal And Informal Curriculum Resources, Ziana Bagot
Electronic Theses and Dissertations, 2020-
Current and aspiring medical school students are inundated by curriculum resources. To optimize the curriculum resources that are offered in medical education, the present work examines both institutionally and commercially developed resources from the lens of various stakeholders through three separate, yet related, studies. The first study, a scoping review, synthesizes and recognizes gaps in scholarship regarding obstacles that underrepresented, pre-medical students encounter in applying to medical school, specifically focusing on the impact of access to commercial test preparation resources. A review of existing literature regarding this population's medical school admission difficulties yielded a majority of non-empirical, deficit-focused articles that …
Fully Automated Life Support Training Effects On Inpatient, Cardiac Arrest Survival Rates, Adessa D. Goss
Fully Automated Life Support Training Effects On Inpatient, Cardiac Arrest Survival Rates, Adessa D. Goss
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
In the United States, more than 200,000 adult patients die annually from inpatient cardiac arrest with survival rates stagnated at 22%–25% nationally. Recently, the adoption of fully automated life support training modalities by health care organizations has become widespread with limited literature available showing the effects on inpatient, cardiac arrest survival. The purpose of this quantitative study was to investigate the effects of fully automated life support training on inpatient, cardiac arrest survival. Applying Bloom’s mastery learning theory, the impact of the Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) quarterly training and hospital unit compliance on inpatient cardiac arrest return of spontaneous circulation …
Education For Ltach Nurses On Clinical Monitoring Systems, Deneen Stokes
Education For Ltach Nurses On Clinical Monitoring Systems, Deneen Stokes
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Alarm fatigue is a patient safety issue. The gap identified in practice is that nurses did not know how to navigate the monitoring system properly such that improper use of the alarm system was the result, which compromised patient safety. The goal of this project aimed to fill the gap in knowledge and skill among the staff and improve the confidence level among nurses by providing an educational program. The practice-focused question focused on whether knowledge, skills, and confidence would increase among nurses after receiving education on the clinical monitoring system. The model to facilitate organizing and analyzing this project …

Federal mandates require special education teachers to use instructional practices grounded in scientific research. Accordingly, the National Professional Development Center on Autism Spectrum Disorder (NPDC) identified 27 evidence-based practices specific to teaching students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD; Wong et al., 2014). Though these practices have undergone a rigorous identification process, less is known about the level of training and confidence in implementation of these instructional practices by education professionals who work with students with ASD. Our study assessed education professionals' (including administrators, teachers, and related services personnel) ratings of their level of training, confidence in implementation, and frequency of …
