Sculpting Organs: An Arts-Based Educational Activity For Anatomy Learning, Annika Gupta
Senior Theses
As an integral component of healthcare, a comprehensive understanding of anatomy is necessary for accurate clinical diagnoses and medical procedures. Beginning in undergraduate classrooms (premedical), there is a need to explore new ways of teaching and learning anatomy to train healthcare professionals. Traditional methods of attending a lecture and reading a textbook may not be the most effective method to learn about anatomical structures—or to engage learners. However, recent studies have reported promising results in the use of arts-based approaches to enhance anatomy learning. Of these, clay sculpting can provide an opportunity for students to participate in an active and …
Dental Hygiene Faculty Use Of Educational Technologies For Instruction, Natalie Michelle Delacruz
Dental Hygiene Faculty Use Of Educational Technologies For Instruction, Natalie Michelle Delacruz
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Faculty hesitancy to implement educational technologies for instruction is problematic in dental hygiene education. Little or no scholarly research has been conducted on faculty use of educational technologies for instructional practices in the dental hygiene field. Grounded in the technology acceptance model, the purpose of this inquiry was to explore the perceptions of dental hygiene faculty regarding their attitudes toward use, usefulness, and ease of use of educational technologies for instruction. The research questions focused on dental hygiene faculty attitudes toward use of educational technologies for instruction, the usefulness of educational technologies for instruction, and the ease of use of …
Lived Experiences Of Nurse Faculty Teaching Patient Safety Risks From Smartphone Distractions, Nicole Irene Helstowski
Lived Experiences Of Nurse Faculty Teaching Patient Safety Risks From Smartphone Distractions, Nicole Irene Helstowski
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Smartphone distractions frequently occur in healthcare, disrupting nurses’ provision of patient care and threatening patient safety. To ensure safe care for patients, nurse faculty must prepare prelicensure nursing students with the knowledge, skills, and behaviors that they need to mitigate patient safety risks. A lack of research regarding how nurse faculty teach nursing students about patient safety risks from smartphone distractions was the concern for this study. The purpose of this qualitative, descriptive phenomenology study was to identify and report the lived experiences of undergraduate nurse faculty regarding teaching about patient safety risks from smartphone distractions in prelicensure nursing programs …
Nursing Faculty Experiences With Mobile Technology Use In The Classroom, Sue Ellen Clark
Nursing Faculty Experiences With Mobile Technology Use In The Classroom, Sue Ellen Clark
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Research to date on faculty use of technology in the classroom has largely focused on student perceptions of technology, technology use in higher education, and benefits of technology use in teaching and learning. A critical factor in integrating technology relates to nursing faculty members’ mobile technology (MT) experience. The aim of this descriptive phenomenological study was to explore the experiences of nursing faculty when integrating MT in the face-to-face classroom. More precisely, this study was designed to explore the reasons for inconsistencies among faculty in the integration of MT in the face-to-face classroom in baccalaureate nursing education programs. Experiences of …
Making Training Memorable: Assessing The Impact Of Animated Video On Learner Satisfaction, Engagement And Knowledge Retention, Leigh Highsmith
Making Training Memorable: Assessing The Impact Of Animated Video On Learner Satisfaction, Engagement And Knowledge Retention, Leigh Highsmith
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
Media rich video provides attributes such as animation, narration, and music that can be incorporated into learning modules which have high potential to promote learning. This project evaluated the impact of transitioning a learning module from static PowerPoint slides to animated (media rich) video on employee satisfaction, engagement, and knowledge retention. Learner satisfaction and engagement was measured using a validated survey instrument designed to evaluate the effectiveness, appeal, and efficiency of the animated video about Hospice and Palliative Care. Knowledge retention was measured by comparing post-test scores between the initial and subsequent second post-test. A retrospective design was used to …
