The Ventana Wildlife Society's mission statement is to conserve native wildlife through science, education, and collaboration. VWS addresses the lettuce curtain and lack of access to green spaces with “Salud y Naturaleza ''. The Lettuce Curtain refers to the disconnect between the Salinas Valley and the coast. This Nature Prescription program removes the barriers of transportation, cost, and language, giving access to nature to families in East Salinas by organizing free family trips to the coast and a weekly nature class. The focus issue addressed in this Capstone Project is on improving the challenges faced by students with special needs through online modalities of adapted physical education (APE). This is an important issue for students with special needs because they are regressing because of online learning. Students with special needs need a routine and a hands-on learning environment to thrive. It is argued that if teachers, parents, and students meet certain criteria, these challenges can be improved with collaboration. Catholic Charities (CC) is a non-governmental organization that is a part of a network of charities that focuses on immediate disaster response and helps to stabilize impacted communities. Their humanitarian-aid includes housing assistance, funding for health care services, disaster relief and distribution of food. The macro-level problem is too many people in Monterey County are at risk of diabetes. The micro-level problem is that residents of Eden Housing have a higher risk of not eating healthy foods.
