There are many health related benefits of participating in regular physical activity. A well-designed elementary physical education program will promote lifetime physical activity that may reduce the risk of disease. In implementing a quality curriculum for physical education, educators need to take in to account the standards when deciding the direction for their curriculum (NASPE, 2005). According to the Washington State Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (2008), physical education includes curriculum, instruction and assessment all implemented together. This project addresses the need for meaningful and convenient assessment tools.

An Assessment Of Athletic Training Educators' Knowledge And Calibration Of Evidence-Based Diagnostic Concepts, Cailee Elizabeth Welch

Evidence-based practice (EBP) is a phenomenon that has transitioned into various medical and allied health professions over the past several decades. The purpose of this study was to assess knowledge and calibration levels of evidence-based concepts in athletic training educators, as well as determine the effectiveness of an EBP single-day workshop. All educators attending the 2009 Athletic Training Educators' Conference (N=498) were solicited to participate in this study; 62 male (41.32 ± 8.92) and 79 female (36.08 ± 7.91) responded for a response rate of 28.3% (years of AT teaching experience = 9.81 ± 7.19). The purpose of this project was twofold: to review the literature pertaining to proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) stretching techniques and its benefits for flexibility; and the back-saver sit-and-reach (BSR) portion of the annual FITNESSGRAM physical fitness test was examined in an effort to discover the benefits of PNF stretching prior to the test.

In elderly psychiatric individuals, physical fitness training has been related to improved cognitive performance on several scales (Powell, 1974; Stamford, Hambacher, & Fallica, 1974). The results with normal adults and children, however, are not clear (Folkins & Sime, 1981). The purpose of the present study was to test the effects of cardiovascular fitness traini~g on cognitive functioning, relevant to academic performance, in college students. This parallel investigation was conducted to survey and to determine the immediate and longitudinal attitude values in selected college women following participation in elective physical activity classes. The expressed attitudes were measured by a modified Carlos L. Wear Physical Education Attitude Inventory adapted for use in this present study by the investigator.

Four experimental groups were chosen according to the cluster sampling technique, representing two life-time sport course offerings of badminton and women's fitness. These attitudes were contained in a conceptual model developed by Gerald S. Kenyon. There appeared to be two main classifications of dance forms: the modern and ancient. This is a study intended to determine i f there are any significant differences in scholastic attainment between athletes and non-athletes at Modesto High School. The eight semester grades of the male graduates for the years 1945-1949 were studied, and only those graduates who attended Modesto High School for four years were considered. Raw differences in grades attained are shown as well as the differences apparent in comparing members of the two groups with like abilities as indicated by intelligence test scores.
