Passive Vibration On The Legs Reduces Peripheral And Systemic Arterial Stiffness, Alexei Wong, Marcos A. Sanchez-Gonzalez, Ryan Gil, Florence Vicil, Song-Young Park, Arturo Figueroa
Passive Vibration On The Legs Reduces Peripheral And Systemic Arterial Stiffness, Alexei Wong, Marcos A. Sanchez-Gonzalez, Ryan Gil, Florence Vicil, Song-Young Park, Arturo Figueroa
Health and Kinesiology Faculty Publications
Intermittent leg exercise (10 × 1-min sets) with whole-body vibration (WBV) decreases brachial-ankle pulse-wave velocity (baPWV)1 and leg PWV (legPWV) but not aortic PWV.2 As baPWV is an index of systemic arterial stiffness3 mainly influenced by aortic PWV (∼58%) and legPWV (∼23%),4 previously published results1, 2 suggest that WBV affects baPWV through peripheral but not central PWV. The post-exercise decrease in PWV is associated with vasodilation in the exercised limb.5, 6 Similarly, intermittent WBV (3 × 3-min sets)7 or passive vibration (PV)8 has been shown to increase blood flow in …

Effect Of Handedness On Gross Motor Skill Acquisition Among College Undergraduates, Anthony Paul Parish
Effect Of Handedness On Gross Motor Skill Acquisition Among College Undergraduates, Anthony Paul Parish
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
There is little applicable research investigating educational adaptation for handedness and even less research dealing with physical skill development. Given that PE teachers and students frequently rely on demonstrations to enhance learning, this study sought to determine if the congruence between teacher and student handedness is important? It was hypothesized that performance and form scores of left-handers that see a right-handed demonstration would be significantly higher than those of right-handers that see a left-handed demonstration.
A lacrosse shot was demonstrated to a group of 69 college-aged participants that were equally split in numbers between male and female and left and …

Impact Of Passive Vibration On Pressure Pulse Wave Characteristics, M A. Sanchez-Gonzalez, A Wong, F Vicil, R Gil, Song-Young Park, A Figueroa

The augmentation index (AIx), a marker of wave reflection, decreases following acute leg exercise. Passive vibration (PV) causes local vasodilation that may reduce AIx. This study investigated the effects of acute PV on wave reflection and aortic hemodynamics. In a crossover fashion 20 (M=9, F=11) healthy young (22±3 year) participants were randomized to 10 min PV or no vibration control (CON) trials. Subjects rested in the supine position with their legs over a vibration platform for the entire session. Radial waveforms were obtained by applanation tonometry before and after 3 min (Post-3) and 30 min (Post-30) of PV (∼5.37 G) …

Evidence-Based Practice In Clinical Athletic Training Education, Dorice A. Hankemeier
Evidence-Based Practice In Clinical Athletic Training Education, Dorice A. Hankemeier
Human Movement Studies & Special Education Theses & Dissertations
Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) concepts are becoming more prevalent in the educational curricula of nursing, medicine, physical therapy, and athletic training. The infusion of EBP in the clinical education experience of students has been slow especially in athletic training. The aim of Project I was to investigate approved clinical instructors (ACIs) experience and implementation of EBP with students through emergent design qualitative interviews. Project II was designed to develop and establish the reliability of the Evidence-Based Concepts Assessment (EBCA) to assess athletic trainers' perceived importance, attitudes & beliefs, knowledge, confidence, accessibility, and barriers of EBP. Project III investigated the importance, knowledge, …
