Throughout my research and work in education I realized there is often a disconnect between schooling and students especially in low-income areas. It can be incredibly difficult to feel confident at school when the curriculum is not relatable to your experiences and life. A handbook has been developed to aid in the integration of physical fitness and movement in an elementary classroom and/or to be used as a supplement to any existing elementary teaching cmTiculum. The handbook consists of eight content areas regarding the integration of physical fitness in the traditional elementary classroom setting: arts, communication, health, reading, language arts, math, science, and social studies. The purpose of this project was to design and develop a model intramural athletic and activities program for students in grades seven through nine, in the Central Kitsap School District. To accomplish this purpose, a review of current literature and research regarding secondary level extracurricular programs was conducted. Additionally, information regarding existing extracurricular programs in selected Washington state junior high schools has been obtained and analyzed. The Junior High School Intramural and Activities Program developed was intended for use in the Central Kitsap School District, in Silverdale, Washington.

A Study Of The Status And Leadership Of Girls' Athletics And The Attitudes Of Teachers Of Girls' Physical Education Toward Girls' Athletics In The State Of Idaho, Connie M. Thorngren

In 1969 a questionnaire was sent to all Idaho high schools concerning girls’ athletic programs and the attitudes of girls’ physical education teachers toward athletics. Eighty-seven percent of the questionnaires were returned, an indication of high interest in the subject area. Results showed moderate participation in most team sports and low participation in most individual sports. Teachers demonstrated favorable attitudes toward girls’ interscholastic athletics and indicated a need for enlarged programs. Money, facilities, and qualified coaches and officials were viewed as major concerns of girls’ programs.
