Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbedaan keterampilan pneumatik pada mahasiswa yang diajar dengan strategi pembelajaran lengkap dan demonstrasi sesuai berdasarkan kemampuan analitiknya pada pembelajaran mata kuliah Pneumatik Hidroulik. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian quasi eksperimen dengan variabel terikat keterampilan pneumatik, variabel bebas strategi pembelajaran, dan variabel atribut kemampuan analitik mahasiswa. Rancangan eksperimen faktorial 2x2 dengan dua ta-raf kualifikasi variabel bebas yaitu strategi pembelajaran lengkap dan demonstrasi. Dua kelas sebagai subyek penelitian dengan 32 mahasiswa pada masing-masing kelas, sehingga jumlah keseluruhan adalah 64 mahasiswa yang dipilih secara random. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan thinking skills peserta didik di Sekolah Alam melalui pembelajaran IPA berbasis konstruktivisme. Pendekatan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas. Tindakan pembelajaran dilakukan langsung oleh guru. Pada tindakan ketiga para peserta didik menunjukkan kemampuan memecahkan masalah secara kreatif. Aktivitas pada tindakan ketiga terdiri atas: (1) penggalian informasi melalui observasi ke halaman sekolah, (2) penggalian informasi melalui perpustakaan sekolah, (3) pengolahan informasi melalui diskusi kelompok, dan (4) pengambilan keputusan/pemecahan masalah melalui diskusi kelompok dan diskusi klasikal. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan keaktifan mahasiswa dalam pembelajaran, mengurangi kesalahan penguasaan konsep pembelajaran dan meningkatkan hasil belajar mahasiswa. Penelitian tindakan kelas pendekatan problem based learning berlangsung selama tiga siklus. Penelitian dilakukan pada mata kuliah Pendidikan Kesegaran Jasmani Program Studi D2-PGSD Penjaskes, Jurusan POR FIK-UNY, pada semester genap tahun ajaran 2007/2008. Disimpulkan bahwa penerapan pembelajaran problem based learning dapat meningkatkan keaktifan, pemahaman materi, prestasi belajar, dan kemampuan mahasiswa untuk menyelesaikan tugas individu.

As efforts are made to identify factors contributing to teachers leaving or staying in the teaching profession, teacher retention continues to pose a challenge for school administrators. Factors such as principal behaviors, principal leadership, school climate/teacher morale, professional development opportunities, and teacher mentoring programs seem to positively impact teachers' decisions to remain in the profession.

In 2007, Australia participated in the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS 2007). TIMSS 2007 is the fourth in a cycle of internationally comparative assessments conducted under the aegis of the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA) dedicated to improving teaching and learning in mathematics and science for students around the world. Carried out every four years at Year 4 and Year 8, TIMSS provides data about trends in mathematics and science achievement over time. In 2008, over 16,000 Indigenous students and 13,000 non-Indigenous students located in 260 Australian schools were involved in an Indigenous language program. More than 80 different Indigenous languages were taught. This project sought to present practice which would strengthen the quality of Indigenous language programs in schools. The report consists of a literature review, a mapping exercise to document current practices relating to Indigenous languages in Australian schools, an analysis of existing models of teacher preparation, and six case studies of good practice examples.

This report provides advice on the collection and reporting of information about the performances of Australian schools. The focus is on the collection of nationally comparable data. Two purposes are envisaged: use by education authorities and governments to monitor school performances and, in particular, to identify schools that are performing unusually well or unusually poorly given their circumstances; and use by parents/caregivers and the public to make informed judgements about, and meaningful comparisons of, schools and their offerings. Our advice is based on a review of recent Australian and international research and experience in reporting on the performances of schools. …

This study examined the effects of SmartMusic® assessment on student music performance while integrating research-based teaching and learning components. Over approximately three weeks, 46 high school band students (N=46) received five 15-minute teacher-led music lessons, totaling 75 minutes of instruction. Two groups, teacher-led instruction or teacher-led instruction using SmartMusic® assessment, were determined by randomly splitting pairs of matched-subjects within woodwind, brass, or mallet percussion families. Constant for both groups, instruction and evaluation materials included teaching and learning practice rubrics, a criterion-referenced performance evaluation form, and short lyrical and technical etudes complemented with respective skill development exercises. Research shows assessment is an important part of education. However, information on assessment in music is often limited to secondary education leaving elementary music teachers to devise their own systems of evaluation students. This teacher research addresses elementary music assessment by examining the implementation of student portfolios as a way to manage the data that is created in the music classroom. The portfolios were compiled using fourth grade student work which was divided into section that mirror the MENC National Standards. The Collaborative Alternative Magnet School for Leadership (CAMS) Student Survey is intended to assess students' leadership development and skills. The survey was originally adapted by the Area Cooperative Educational Services (ACES) from Connecticut's Common Core of Learning, and was recently revised and used by CAMS. There are four basic aspects in the CAMS Student Survey: responsibility, persistence, respect for culture diversity, and sense of community. This study examines non-completion of Year 12 at school for a nationally representative sample of young people who were 15 years old and still attending school in 2003. The study explores relationships between non-completion and selected socio-demographic and school-related factors, and changes in rates of school non-completion from the early 1980s to 2005. There is a particular emphasis on how socio-demographic and school-related factors over that period have influenced early school leaving. This study also examines the use of an alternative measure of ‘school completion’, which incorporates participation in a vocational education and training program after leaving school.

This paper is intended to offer some reflections on the difficulties associated with the appropriate use of rubric assessment in mathematics at the secondary level, and to provide an overview of an assessment technique, hereafter referred to as solution dynamics, as a way to enhance popular rubric assessment techniques. Two primary aspects of solution dynamics are presented in this manuscript.
