Limited research has been conducted to compare full-day and half-day kindergarten programs. Most studies examined reading and math achievement. Standardized tests were generally used to measure achievement. Virtually no studies have been conducted to assess and compare writing proficiency of full-day and half-day students.

The purpose of this study was to determine the difference in the writing scores of first grade students who attended either a full-day or half-day kindergarten program the previous year. Holistic scoring was used in keeping with the need for authentic assessment.

This study focuses on the value of introducing Philippine folktales to children of Filipino heritage. The primary objective in this project is to demonstrate how Philippine folktales can serve as a potent vehicle for taking American-born Filipino children home, that is teaching them about their roots and celebrating their cultural identity. I believe that by recognizing their Filipino heritage the children gain a fuller appreciation of and pride in their uniqueness as well as the interest and ability to share aspects of their culture with other children. Language Interactions Between Parent And Child During A Shared Reading Storytime, Lynda S. Krens

The purpose of this study was to examine the language interactions between a parent and child during a shared reading storytime. Children from a Head Start program were videotaped with a parent "reading" a wordless picture book. Transcripts were taken from these videos and the language between the parent and the child was examined. Positive and negative interactions were noted, as well as child initiated and parent initiated interactions. The data were analyzed and implications for further research and classroom practice were discussed.

The study involved six weeks of classroom observations and in-depth interviews with two teachers, kindergarten and first grade, who are currently engaging in an on-going process of implementing constructivist education in a public school in Missouri and whose teaching practices are considered to be exemplary. The purpose of the study was twofold: (a) to describe and analyze the teachers’ practical approaches in promoting children’s conflict resolution in the classrooms and (b) to examine how the teachers’ beliefs and practices related to conflict resolution reflect the theoretical framework o f the constructivist program.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of one short-term training model, Parents and Children Together (PACT), on parent stress and child behavior for families enrolled in the Head Start program. PACT is a program of structured play activities designed to replicate the interactions between parents and children during the first developmental stage of life. PACT has been adapted, by the researcher, from a program called Theraplay developed for Head Start children by Ann Jernberg (1967).;Thirty families completed the study.
