Goal setting is a growing strategy in education and has been shown to improve task performance. Studies that have focused on the effects of goal-setting in the past have highlighted both positive perceptions from students and an increase in academic performance. This study investigated student and teacher perceptions of the integration of SMART goals in second-grade math instruction as well as the perceived effects of SMART goals. The researcher collected data through observational field notes, a survey at the end of the study, student artifacts and interviews.
