In many schools, children's free play time is being taken away and is replaced with more academic time. When children enter kindergarten, they are five to six years old. These young children need to participate in free play in the classroom to help build their social skills, continue their imagination, and allow them to explore. Children entering kindergarten are beginning their first school experiences by learning basic literacy skills such as reading and writing.
