The Perceived Effectiveness Of School-Based Accommodations For Students With Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, Maryann Seng

Pediatric patients with systemic lupus erythematosus battle a chronic, autoimmune illness which can be life-threatening in cases of vital organ involvement. Disease activity and severity is harsher during the developmental period of childhood and adolescence than during adulthood. Lupus symptoms and medication side effects may cause patients to experience neurocognitive and/or physical impairment. The cyclical nature of the illness consists of flare and remission phases. The present study explored the topic of pediatric lupus in the school setting due to the severe impact of the illness on youth.
