This article aims to dig deeper into the concept of Indonesian philanthropy in dealing with the pandemic seen from the social base of the Indonesian people. This study uses a qualitative approach with the grounded theory method. This research results show a collective awareness of Durkheim's understanding that characterizes mechanical solidarity; in the case of philanthropy in Indonesia, it is at the intersection of mechanical and organic solidarity. This project is the development of a grant writing seminar and workshop. I reference arts and culture organizations throughout, as this is my area of expertise. Yet much of the learning, and the organization of resources and information, is useful and transferable to small and mid-size health and human services, science, and other organizations. Literature suggests that the challenges currently facing higher education will continue, increasing the pressure on institutions to discover and cultivate new funding sources outside of the traditional avenues of tuition, room, board, and fees. Through an exploratory comparative case study research design, the characteristics of the fundraising operations of three small, private, faith-based institutions that have proven successful, as measured by their current U.S. News & World Report and Forbes financial ratings, were examined through individual interviews with six employees at each of these three institutions, including the president, vice president of development, senior development staff members and university trustees. …

Higher education has relied on private philanthropy since the establishment of the first universities in the U.S. This reliance has increased over the decades as a result of rising costs and decreased government investment.
