Interim Administration In Higher Education, Charles Hentges

Culminating Projects in Higher Education Administration

Higher education, like any other field, goes through constant change. It is not uncommon to see constant changes in administration in institutions of higher education. In many of these cases, an interim administration is hired to provide transition, stability, and time to find the best candidate to serve in a permanent capacity. Research has indicated that leadership turnover in higher education is continual and is most often seen at the dean level. During these times, well-prepared leaders assist in the smooth transition for the organization and help the interim candidate become a stronger leader.

In the Minnesota State system, there …

Leadership For Educational Equity: Seek Understanding Beyond The Words And Beneath The Practices, Cindy N. Shevlin-Woodcock

Culminating Projects in Education Administration and Leadership

Current literature has identified multiple underlying causes for disproportionate and widespread underachievement between student groups: the history of inequities in American education (Noguera, 2012; Singleton, 2015), a prevailing White racial-frame worldview and systemic racism producing implicitly-biased educational policies and practices (Lawrence & Keleher, 2004; Feagin, 2014), and opportunity gaps perpetuating lower educational achievement and attainment by students of color and students from impoverished backgrounds (Jordan, Brown & Gutiérrez, 2010; Noguera, 2012). Educators must critically reflect on the obstacles to achieving educational equity and the lack of access to quality instructional opportunities for students from diverse backgrounds and the impact these …

Over past decades, the position of principal, like that of technology, has evolved and changed drastically. Today, the changing face of Internet technologies is merging with the changing face of educational professional development (United States Department of Education, 2010; Veletsianos, 2012). Due to rapid growth and change within the technology industry, there is limited research about the relationship of technology and professional development.

Given the widespread popularity of the Social Change Model of Leadership Development (SCM) in college student leadership literature, there is a surprising lack of attention to the assessment of leadership skills associated with this model. Effects Of Gender On The Career Aspirations Of Administrators In The Minnesota State Colleges And Universities System, Christine C. Lepkowski

Culminating Projects in Higher Education Administration

A recent national survey found women hold only 23% of higher education institution presidencies (American Council on Education, 2007). However, women now earn 58% of all bachelor’s degrees and 4% of all doctorates (U.S. Department of Education, 2005). These findings suggest something may be interfering with the pool of capable women moving through the pipeline to attain higher education administrative positions. Gender differences in career aspirations have been suggested as one potential reason for this disparity.

This study examined the career aspirations of women and men holding administrative positions of dean or higher (excluding presidents) within the institutions in the …
