A classroom web site for first grade families and community members of the llidgefield School District was designed for the World Wide Web. It was created as a resource to explain the components of balanced reading and writing programs in a first grade classroom. These components include reading aloud, shared reading, guided reading, independent reading, shared writing, guided writing, and independent writing. Included on the web site are photographs documenting monthly events in the first grade classroom, as well as, literacy internet resources for parents and children. As an Art education major, I was somewhat daunted by a recent job offer requiring me to teach in the Career and Technology Studies department. As a recovering technophobe and lover of scissors and paste, I was cautious of this ‘Brave New World’ of computers. I perceived post-millennial teens to be cyber savvy know-it-alls, largely due to the way in which they were portrayed in the media. This paper deals with the development of an experiment in the virtual domain for the undergraduate thermo-fluids laboratory in the mechanical engineering program. A physical experiment titled "Venturimeter as a Flow Measuring Device" is replicated as a computer-based experiment as part of the ongoing effort at Old Dominion University to develop web-based laboratories that would provide students hands-on experience in the virtual domain. A web-based module is developed that allows experimentation and data taking in a virtual setting much like in the physical experiment. Teachers' Perceived Barriers To Using Computers And The Internet For Instruction, Lisa M. Thompson

The purpose of this study was to identify the three most frequently reported barriers to using computers and the Internet for instruction. This descriptive, survey study used a 17-item survey to gauge the responses of 15 High School InTech educators at Macon State College in Macon, Georgia. The three barriers most frequently reported, among the "Moderate barrier" and "Great barrier" rankings, were "not enough computers"; "outdated, incompatible, or unreliable computers"; and "lack of release time for teachers to learn, practice, or plan ways to use computers or the Internet."
