The purpose of this study was to explore the lived experience during participation in higher education of Kumeyaay Indian Nation college graduates. Specifically, the study investigated the factors graduates perceived to contribute to their persistence and attainment of a baccalaureate degree within six years of enrollment at a four-year institution of higher education. Participants included twelve participants who self-identified as members of the Kumeyaay Indian Nation who had earned at least a baccalaureate degree from a four-year institution of higher education within six years of enrollment. Exploring Opportunities On A Liberal Arts Campus To Develop Students’ Critical Consciousness: A Qualitative Study, Tanden Lee Brekke

This qualitative study explores the critical consciousness development of students enrolled in a liberal arts institution. Two hundred seventy-seven students at Bethel University completed the Critical Consciousness Scale (Diemer, Rapa, Park, & Perry, 2017) and Measure of Adolescent Critical Consciousness (McWhiter & McWhirter, 2016). Based on the results of these two scales, 12 students took part in group interviews. A growing number of students with high functioning autism (HFA) are entering higher education; this number is expected to grow as the prevalence of autism continues to rise. Students with HFA face many challenges when entering higher education. These challenges produce an environment that impedes student success and potential degree completion. This study explored the lived experiences of 17 participants with HFA who were enrolled in private colleges and universities in a metropolitan area of the Midwest. The use of the cohort model within higher education has produced outcomes that have been either positive and adaptive or dysfunctional and maladaptive due to the unique identities formed by cohorts. The purpose of this study was to examine the cohort model through the lens of group level affect. The study examined whether cohorts of university students developed a group affective tone and whether or not the formation of group affective tone impacted student satisfaction with the cohort experience.
