This study was a statewide survey that attempted to determine the value of Texas history programs and the status of the materials available. Information was gathered in a survey of selected schools with an Average Daily Attendance of at least 10,000 students during the 1979-1980 school year. The data was summarized and analyzed in eight tables. The conclusions of this study Indicate; (1) the movement to eliminate the required teaching of Texas history is in great disfavor with the teachers of Texas history; (2) the state required minimum of 24 hours of history is considered adequate; (3) most school districts …

Problem: There is a need to evaluate the training programs available to parents to determine the effect of these programs upon the children of participants. The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of Parent Effectiveness Training upon the elementary school age children of participants in the areas of self-perceived Locus of Control and behavior. Procedure. Experimental and control groups were established with students from four central California elementary schools to obtain data on the problem under investigation. Newspapers and school districts form a tentative partnership in the dissemination of education news. Subjects preferred by readers have not been reflected in actual education news coverage. Emphasis on utility information at the expense of in-depth writing about what is going on in public education has been standard practice. Content analysis shows that while quantity of education news seems reasonable, the quality of that news fails to transmit to readers the substance of what teachers and children are accomplishing in the public schools.

Problem: The home school movement in America presents a rapidly-emerging alternative to conventional educational systems. The purpose of this study was to identify selected characteristics of home schools and the parents who operate them.
Method: The population used in this descriptive research was drawn from the files of the Hewitt Research Foundation, Berrien Springs, Michigan. Potential respondents were parents indicating recent experience or interest in home school operations.
