This independent study is a ten lesson curriculum on the study of compromise and the Declaration of Independence. It was designed for a fourth and fifth grade class in a progressive public school in New York City. The goal of this curriculum is to promote critical thinking and discussion about the role of compromise in American history and present day politics through the examination of historical and contemporary contentious issues.

A Case Study Of The Effects Of Integration On Two Black High Schools In East Tennessee, Sheila R. Knaff

This study investigated the effects of integration on two black high schools and their communities in East Tennessee. The purpose of the study was to show how integration impacted these two communities both negatively and positively. The research method was qualitative and used the case study approach. Interviews of former students, teachers, and administrators of these two schools was a primary source of data collection. Further analysis of the data used the qualitative software package QSR NUD*IST 4.0. The purpose of this study was twofold: (a) to develop criteria for creating thematic literature units appropriate to the English language facility and to the culture of students in the LDS secondary schools in the South Pacific, and (b) to create three thematic literature units at the Form 5 (11th grade) level which would exemplify the recommended criteria.
An analysis of questionnaire responses revealed that a concept-centered approach to literature should take precedence, with geographical literature—especially Polynesian—also receiving emphasis. Less attention should be given to developing skill in literary analysis, and more focus placed upon systematically reinforcing other language arts …

The purpose of writing this teacher's manual was to provide a course of study for the junior high school Indian Seminary students living mainly in Northern climes of North America. In more recent years, a greater emphasis by the Church has been placed on preaching the Gospel to Northern Indian tribes, as evidenced by the organization of the Northern Indian Mission in 1964.
