The inspiration for this school improvement plan was seeing the need in my school building for departmentalized PLC collaboration following the MTSS framework. Research findings show that PLC collaborations following an MTSS framework provide teachers and students with many beneficial supports that increase student learning and teacher knowledge. Informed y a literature review, this school improvement plan creates a departmentalized PLC collaboration that follows an MTSS framework within the school setting.

This paper examines the use of reading instruction interventions in an elementary school in Northwest Iowa. Whereas the school excels at providing regular assessments, including universal screeners, educators there have struggled to adequately meet the reading needs of their students as reflected on FAST, MAP, and Panorama data. This school improvement plan provides professional development training in response to intervention (RTI) procedures along with continual support and collaboration throughout the school year to assist teachers in confidently serving all learners and helping them reach their fullest potential as readers.

The purpose of this study was to discover if providing students with a collaboration intervention would increase the times they chose to work with a peer and if they found the collaboration beneficial. The participants were sixteen students from one first grade classroom in a midwestern city. This study included quantitative data to determine the impact of the intervention. The researcher tallied if students chose to ask a teacher for help or collaborate with a peer. Students completed reflection forms stating if the help was beneficial. The purpose of this action research was to determine if implementing a student-centered, collaborative classroom would have a positive effect on student critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Data was collected at six points during the study. Three set were collected prior to the intervention and three sets were collected after. After analyzing the data, the research suggests that students working in peer collaborative groups can have a positive impact of their problem-solving strategies and improve their critical thinking skills.
