Objective Method For Diagnosis Of Chronic Pain (Presentation), Rachel Jiang Mar 2021

Objective Method For Diagnosis Of Chronic Pain (Presentation), Rachel Jiang

Generator at Sheridan

Pain assessment is essential to providing proper patient care and assessing its efficacy under clinical settings. To assess pain, physicians typically rely on patients' statements, which are subjective, or imaging technologies, which are unreliable as detected abnormalities do not always indicate pain and are not always present in cases of chronic pain. This research project aims at creating an automated chronic pain diagnostic system that will output a computer diagnosed pain score with the ability to accurately distinguish real from fake pain. The proposed system will enhance patient care and improve clinical practice efficiencies by applying the advanced 3D technologies …

The second is Petal; a Startup company that makes a zero-odor germ freezing waste bin.

We will also touch on how at CAMDT (Centre for Advanced Manufacturing and Design Technologies) we adopted new processes and technology to allow applied research …

Generator at Sheridan

We will share the preliminary findings from our research exploring the experiences of older adults during the COVID-19 pandemic. We conducted multiple in-depth interviews with 25 older adults (aged 51-84) who live in Halton and the surrounding areas to explore how they have fared during the global spread of a virus that may be particularly dangerous to older persons. We followed their experiences, from initial rumors of an infectious disease spreading in China, to the lockdown in March, the gradual re-opening over the summer of 2020, and the second wave in the fall of 2020. We also learned how it …

Conducting Focus Groups In A Virtual Environment: A Review Of Best Practices In Methodology (Presentation), Rosanne Brown, Shazia Akhtar, Laura Edge

Generator at Sheridan

In this session, we will analyze the focus group methodology and outline best practices for data collection in a virtual context. Considerations around group dynamics, visual cues, and bias will be discussed using a comparative approach of in-person and virtual focus groups. In addition to adapting focus group practices and procedures from in-person to online, there are new aspects to take into account; video-conferencing tools and technological considerations, including issues with connectivity, distractions and privacy concerns are factors that need to be accounted for when conducting focus groups virtually. The focus of the presentation will be on best practices prior …

Seniors’ Anti-Bullying Project: Authentic Student Engagement (Presentation), Kirsten Madsen, Liza Franses, Emily Ayenew

Generator at Sheridan

People of all ages can be bullied, yet data on bullying between older adults is lacking. To better understand and support the development and implementation of best practices for targeting bullying between older adults, the Seniors’ Anti- Bullying project was established. It began more than four years ago with a large-scale survey of older adults in Ontario, resulting in an anti-bullying toolkit that will now be implemented and evaluated in eight Seniors’ Residences. When working on such a long-term project, with many partners, implementation sites, as well as a different cohorts of student researchers, it is essential to ensure that …

The result was the creation of social activities that combined socialization with the means of enhancing learners’ metacognition, emotional regulation, resilience and motivation. Two of these events were a Newcomer Success Stories coffee chat and a forum presented by EAP students capturing their journey through the ESL Program. These events …

In late 2019, a joint working group between the Teaching and Learning and Scholarship, Research and Creative Activities (SRCA) Standing Committees of Senate was struck to explore curriculum-based SRCA across the College with the aim of establishing best practices, identifying needs, and capturing the breadth and depth of SRCA work linked to curriculum. The advent of the COVID-19 pandemic shifted much of our teaching and learning online and created challenges for conducting and supporting SRCA linked to curriculum.

We propose to gather faculty who are actively involved in remote curriculum-based SRCA to take part in a panel discussion about best …
