Supporting Mathematic Achievement For Students With Learning Disabilities Through Enhanced Anchored Instruction, Wendie Lappin Castillo
Supporting Mathematic Achievement For Students With Learning Disabilities Through Enhanced Anchored Instruction, Wendie Lappin Castillo
The STEAM Journal
Difficulties in mathematical learning are common and significant. The struggle has increased exponentially with the Common Core State Standards in effect. Students with or without learning or mathematical disabilities may respond to continued failure by withdrawing their effort, carrying low self-esteem, and/or displaying avoidance behaviors. Enhanced anchored instruction is designed to provide students the opportunity to construct knowledge and design solutions to problems collaboratively. The approach of enhanced anchored instruction attempts to guide students to become more active in learning through the use of technology. Enhanced anchored instruction provides students the opportunity to work through problems attached to a visual anchor. …

The Ball Is In Your Court: A Phenomenological Study Examining College Athletes With Learning Disabilities And/Or Adhd On College Campuses., Stephanie Thea O'Donnell
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Approximately only 1% of scholarly top-tier higher education published research focuses on the experiences of students with disabilities since the passing of the ADA in 1990 (Pena, 2014). Even fewer studies have explored the learning-disabled collegiate athlete experience. The purpose of this emerging phenomenological study is to understand the lived experiences of college athletes with learning disabilities and/or ADHD at NCAA Division 1 FBS institutions, giving voice to the untold stories, and commonalities amongst this population. This study provides findings grounded in student perspective by examining their experiences related to disability disclosure, self-advocacy, and academic support within the college environment. …
Exploring The Influence Of Peer-Assisted Learning Strategies (Pals) In Increasing Reading Comprehension Of Grade-Level Biology Text And Biology Self-Efficacy In Students With Learning Disabilities: A Formative Experiment, K. Lea Priestley
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The present study used a formative design experiment framework which does not answer a research question but addresses a pedagogical goal. The goal of this study was to determine the influence of Peer-Assisted Learning Strategies (PALS) on the reading comprehension of grade-level biology text and biology self-efficacy with students diagnosed with learning disabilities. As a result of this intervention, it was expected that students would better understand biology text and feel better about themselves as a biology student.
Students were separated into pairs, or dyads, with each pair having a stronger reader and a weaker reader. These dyads participated in …

The Evaluation Of The Degree Of Application Of Special Education Teachers In Jordan To The Strategies Of Applied Behavior Analysis In Light Of Some Variables, ميساء عبدالحميد العجارمة, Dr.Jamal Al-Khatib
Jordanian Educational Journal
The objective of this study was to examine special education teacher's application of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). A scale with satisfactory content validity and internal consistency was constructed on (200) teachers of autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disabilities, and learning disabilities who were chosen by the stratified random sample method from (27) public and private schools and special needs' centers in Amman. The results showed that teachers possess a high level application of (ABA). Furthermore, the results revealed no significant differences among teachers due to specialization, training, teaching experience and/or disability types. The results also revealed significant differences among teachers due …
The Effect Of Social Emotional Skill Instruction On Cognitive Development, La'toria Horan
The Effect Of Social Emotional Skill Instruction On Cognitive Development, La'toria Horan
Master's Theses & Capstone Projects
The purpose of this literature review is to gather evidence on the effect of teaching social emotional skills on the cognitive development of young children. Social emotional skills are skills that people use to interact with others, manage their emotion and address social situations. The History Of Learning Disabilities And The Hidden Stories Of Students, Parents, And Teachers: How Traditional Classrooms Can Improve, Gabriella G. Catania
Capstone Projects and Master's Theses
This research will differentiate between the various learning disabilities and their history of when they were first discovered. This research reveals how classrooms have improved and what needs to be changed in order to guarantee every student can receive an equal education despite their learning disability. This paper is constructed through research and interviews with parents, teachers, and students about why the education system needs to move against conformity and standardization. This research demonstrates each learning disability and its effect on students learning. The main focus is on what issues need to be improved in the traditional education system to …
Theory To Practice: Perceptions Of School Psychologists, Special Education, And General Education Teachers On Social Skills Instruction In The Least Restrictive Environment, Dusty G. Low
CUP Ed.D. Dissertations
Social-Emotional Learning for students with disabilities is an important topic in education. Currently, over 13% of students in schools K–12 have a documented disability, of which many are faced with deficits in social-emotional development. Furthermore, there appears to be a gap between the research literature and how instructional practices are used to support students with social-emotional deficits. This case study design aimed to understand how three general education teachers, four special education teachers, and three school psychologists implemented social-skills instructional practices for students with high-incidence disabilities in the LRE. These participants represented 12 different schools from four school districts within …
Utilizing The Stepped Care Model To Empower University Students With Learning Disabilities, Nick R. Abel, Justin Jacques
Utilizing The Stepped Care Model To Empower University Students With Learning Disabilities, Nick R. Abel, Justin Jacques
Scholarship and Professional Work – Education
Students with learning disabilities face several challenges in postsecondary education settings. The authors explore the issue and shed light on the importance of self-advocacy for academic success. The stepped care model (SCM) is suggested as an approach to assist college students with learning disabilities in developing these skills and obtaining services. A brief case example from 1 of the authors’ work is shared to illustrate the use of the SCM with a student with a learning disability.

Teacher Perception: Secondary Level Skill Development Support For Students With Specific Learning Disabilities, Philip L. Specht
Education Doctorate Dissertations
Defining the special education framework and teacher roles continue to be a challenge as schools face the differentiated needs of 21st-century learners. Delineating the functions and duties of special education teachers (SETs) at the secondary level provides a unique challenge, which is addressed by a midsized suburban high school developing the Inclusive Consultation Model (ICM). This innovative instructional model is school-wide and multi-disciplinary, impacting both special education and academic teachers. Through weekly consultation, the SET supports the content teacher in contributing instructional methods to meet the varied student needs in class. Outside of class, SETs justify the value of their …
