This thesis examines through qualitative data how the dominant narrative shapes the experiences of women in France who wear hijab and in the United States who wear hijab or niqab at educational institutions. This research focuses on what roles do cultural symbolism, colonial ideology and political propaganda play in continuing the dominant narrative in this context in both France and the United States. This study further advocates based on its findings that educational institutions must promote more cross-cultural dialog and a larger representation of accurate depictions of Muslim women.
