Inclusion of autistic students in mainstream classrooms may make it difficult for teachers to identify and proactively address disruptive behaviors. That is, mainstream teachers may not know how to respond to these specific behaviors and their standard classroom management techniques may not work with autistic students. It will take commitment and hard work to identify strategies to regulate the disruptive behaviors of students with autism. Inclusive education has become one of the primary goals of education policy across the world in order to achieve education for all. However, there have been various interpretations with respect to what constitutes inclusive education. The purpose of this study was to determine middle school administrator and teacher attitudes towards inclusion in one local education agency (LEA) in North Carolina. Administrators and teachers from three middle schools were surveyed to determine factors that impact their attitude of inclusion with regard to years of experience, gender, extent working with students with disabilities, role in education, age, highest degree obtained, number of special education courses taken in college, and expected length in education. Individuals who are ascribed the label of disability must face the stigma and assumptions of inability that it carries, and those with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) are subjected to speculation that calls into question their capacity for reason, reflection, and morality. The purpose of this research was to explore the perspectives and experiences of adults with IDD and their family members. This study primarily focused on the ways in which participants create meaning around community and relationships in addition to examining the factors that inhibit or encourage inclusion and accessibility.
